Dear jd,
I must say sorry for not posting my comments much earlier! Iam leaning towards(like the leaning tower of Pisa) Electrotune 1200's suggestion of a clean re-install. But let me put forth my small opinion :
1) Your computer does not have any malware(yet to scan with HOUSECALL)
2) You have installed the Windows update readiness tool
3) You have patiently tried all the suggestions we offered you regarding download via the route of WINDOWS UPDATE!
4) Now, you have almost prepared the ground for installing via the Microsoft Download center, except for two things!
A) Install Windows Update KB2454826 (This "may" be important) click on --->start---->type "
View installed updates" in the search box, and click---->Enter.Then search whether
Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2454826) is listed. In rare situations the absense of this update will cause your kind of problem! Courtesy :
Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center
B) update the drivers (which anyway is a good thing to do), but let us keep it on the backburner for a while!
Cheer up! I searched for this quote with tenacity ! It was said by General Doughlas McArthur, one of the greatest American Generals ever(Second world war) " “
Age wrinkles the body. Quitting wrinkles the soul.”
I wanted to become a specialist in Diabetology after MD in Internal Medicine and desired to study for it in Australia. I was short on dollars and long on gritty perseverence and wrote the entrance test 4 times until i succeeded to get a percentile which gave me a scholarship for six months there in the New Castle University.
Please spend 5-10 minutes for searching this update : KB2454826 in -->Control Panel-->System And security-->Windows Update-->view installed updates.
If you can download the above update via windows update or if it is alreay installed, you should confidently try this other tack of downloading using the Microsoft download center
Best wishes,
Sreedhav
