2 things i want to accomplish with windows 7.

1. something that already bugged me in vista aero.
when you minimize a windows and then open a preview windows by
hovering the windows in the taskbar, it freezes and you can't see the actual state of that windows.
for example: you watch a movie, you minimize it, go to taskbar and hover it to see the preview, the movie paused. doesn't make any sense.

2. something new in windows 7, the "aero pick" as it called.
you hover a windows in taskbar, the windows comes to front and all
other a transparent glassy looking, don't like it that much, kinda annoying, anyway to remove it?

any change the things i mentioned will be in final version? (i personally assume that at this stage, no.)

yeah, what is the point in that if it acts like that?
i've sent MS feedback about it,
i suggest everybody who want to see such a feature to send feedback as well.

Microsoft had put the Aero Preview System in so you that if you had, for example, two notepad documents, than you could tell the difference between the two.

As for the movies, it would be cool if you could watch them in the preview box, but that would require more resources. Not only that, I don't like looking at a tiny box all that much...

I call it the craptop.
The sad thing is, i can't see Microsoft changing that any time soon. A 'thumbnail' is just a static image :p

Shame, it would be a nice feature if it was a 'Live' preview

the movie was just an example.
here you have a better example:
you download multiple files
you install a game software,
you browse a news site and want to know in a quickly if it changed.
there is so many reasons to enable this feature, I'm sure that resources comes to mind when talking about such a thing, but at least give us the option
most of us have computer that can handle it.

well thats the thing, if you leave this windows open in the background it does exactly that, shows you a live preview, the problem starts when
you minimize the windows.

The answer to #2 is to turn off the "Aero Peek" feature. Finding where to turn it off I'll have to leave to others since I am not at my W7 machine atm :(

[edit]
For finding out things ike "where is the aero peek setting", give the windows help a try. Starting with vista, a previously anemic help system was replaced by something that is really quite amazing sometimes. You'll find out all kinds of things about Windows Vista/7 you never new cruising through that help system sometimes.

that would be the rational thing to do, except there is no such option.
you can turn it off only for desktop preview when you hover the little button
near the clock.

MS is forcing us to use thing we don't need, win 7 is a great system
but too bad there are thing that are unchangeable and could harm the experience.

i'm pretty sure that a registry hack can resolve at least the 2nd problem
but 7 is not yet that wide spread.

For the refresh of the preview when the window is minimized I think it is a bit more complex.
I think that the preview is not refreshed because the application does not refresh his window anymore because it is minimized.
So it means that Microsoft should changed completely the system of drawing in a window or intercept the messages sent to the window loop to redraw the preview.
I am maybe completely wrong but maybe not...

So don't get me wrong, I don't say it is impossible, I just say it should be very complicated.

If you right-click the taskbar you can de-select 'Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop'. This might help for #2 :)

you must be using a different version of 7, because for me that normally works... when i open a video in wmp, minimize the player and put the mouse cursor on the wmp icon on the taskbar, it shows me a live preview in a small window... even if i use windows key+tab to 3d switch between windows it continues to play...even if a youtube video is playing..

I don't get what's the complaining about? Just don't minimize the window. Heck, ever since Windows 7, i never minimize anything lol, theres no need to for me. The reason why you can't see minimized video previews is because once you minimize a program, Windows only uses a thumbnail image in order to conserve resources. If you don't minimize anything, you should be fine.

lol, dunno what to say...it doesnt work dude :/ when you go to window preview, from superbar, you should get a window on the screen(preview), but you get only image(from when you last time minimized that window), so if its there some progres bar or something live (like video) you will see like its "freezed".. so all point of window preview is...ahh Microsoft always fails somewhere :(

first of all, we dont talk only about video(WMP)....ALL windows are only images if they are minimized, and not to minimize window..O_O WTF ?!?!

im telling you, i dont get a still image, but live video with wmp, i have it the way i describe it lol... but with browser its different... if i dont minimize it and just open a different app and look at the superbar preview, its live... but if i minimze the browser, it isnt and just a picture..i dont see whay with video it works but with other things not

hmm.. just checked..(a was on vista when this thread started) When a window is minimized: WMP works in both way, when you get a litle thumbnail, it shows nicely, and when you get "big" preview(when put mouse over thumbnail) it shows live picture(Gom player doesnt work at all), but...for the rest (like some progres bar)...doesnt work...its only image.. NO LIVE PREVIEW in both way

It seems that only Video shows a live preview when WMP is minimised, Music just shows a static image (best tested at the end of a track). It must be programmed into Windows as the only 'real' need for a live preview is Video, i never sit watching Music or documents LOL

Installers can be a pain in the a$$ having to maximize all the time :p
