Solved New 7 install on added HDD,Dual Boot XP Pro

What OS do you have on your other PC?

I tried to get the elevated command line but the
"Administrator" user is locked. In Safe Mode, which I tried after the post, asking if F5 was for safe mode, I went to user accounts and found that I can not access the Administrator account with any other user accounts except the "Guest account. I tried to delete my administrative group account but was not able to find the delete function after I activated the "Guest account". THat was more than you asked but it answers why I was unable to use the t

Tutorial from yesterday that requires "Use as Administrator" option, right click.

Win95, Win98, Win me, win 2000, Win Xp, Win Vista, Windows7.

theog, I put Windows XP Home in the title and then went on to explain about.....
I thought you would have seen your answer in the title. I saw it there when I posted the answer. I did answer your question but should have included it in the message also.
I apologise for not making it more plainly seen.

This would only be if XP is on the HD, and CD/DVD boot fails and tries to boot HD.

Could error be from anything else?

Greg, Yes, could be USB legacy.

Prospector
Are you use a PS2 or USB keyboard?

If USB, Check in BIOS for USB legacy is enable, & not disabled.
or
use a PS2 keyboard.

I thought that I included that answer but changed it a couple times to make it exact and may have left out that part, message:Press any key to boot from CD....
NTLDR is missing
Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart
Pressing key at that stage does Nothing! It is telling me that pressing the key failed and to restart the machine.

I posted last night about the LegacySelect group and I mentioned the 3 options: off, On, and No Boot and how Operating Systems with USB support will recognize USB storage devices regardless of the No Boot setting.
I just read it word for word and have it set to the on position which is the default position, so the OS is supported, regardless and no need for PS/2 which I do not have available anyway. This machine is designed to be USB 2.0 universally. It has at least 7 or 8 USB ports on the front and back of the machine. It shows that you need a PS/2 adapter to USB to use one of those keyboards.

I have a multimedia keyboard that has lights for the F mode on or off and software to allow me to do all kinds of things with this keyboard. No lights means that it does not work and sometimes I have to reboot to get it to become functional again.

If Prospector resets the BIOS, will need to enable USB legacy

You need to enable USB legacy for the keyboard.

After the BIOS boots the keyboard will not work until in windows, if not enable.

NTLDR is missing

Is this a known-good XP CD which has been used to install before? Check that it is perfectly clean.

Do you get the same NTLDR error when you try to boot either XP or Win7?

Clear the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Try the flash stick method using Ultra ISO as given above.

You asked me to disconnect the old drive which I did and am getting the error message from the new HDD on SATA 0. So I am getting the error message with or without XP HDD.
You and theog are sending me messages faster than I can keep up with!

I am about to download the other ISO program which will take time to learn and use to re-do the flash drive.

Clear the CMOS, which one do I do first, the CMOS or download and do the flash drive.
Please remember, I am DISABLED and have difficulty keeping-up with you both!

I missed Greg's question about having a clean install CD. The answer is YES, I do, it is a NEW re-install CD replacement from Dell because there was NO XP CD with this Refurbished machine so I had to order a new one.

OK, so I am going to stop for a break and go to the tutorial and then install the ISO software first and then come back and deal with the CMOS.

Setup will start.

(1) I finished the flash drive except before I close the program, It has an option to make the ISO Image Bootable, Should I use that function before I close the program and insert it in the dead machine?

Also, the Default position for the USB in Legacy is"ON"

(2) I ran the CMOS 1 or 2 days ago and re-set to default but I just did it again TWICE, to make sure then tried the DVD with WIN 7 and then the CD-ROM with XP Pro.

The results are exactly the same as before with the same error messages:Press any key with the CD-ROM then the NTLDR is missing message and with the DVD, the first part about "Press any key is absent and only the NTLDR is missing! I again pressed F12 for both and received the very same error message as before.
Nothing Has Changed!!!
Now do you want me to add the "Make Bootable Option" to the Flash drive before I close the program?

It is now Running from F12

I pressed F12 and "Press any key" in CD-ROM with XP Pro and SETUP STARTED this time when it would not do it before. Sometimes the CD-ROM has to be used even though the DVD is marked as the prefered drive. XP is installing on the NEW HDD!!!!! I hope that it found the second partition that I set as active! I hope Win. 7 does not get overwritten, what do you think?

It just gave me the option to set the partition where to install and it is indeed letting me install to the prefered partition.
I THANK GOD.
He gets thanked first and now I thank you both!

Win XP will install to the partition you tell it to.

theog, I will next want to use the ASR disc that I made previously and used for the other fresh install on the old hard Drive. What is the procedure to initiate the ASR to add the 60 GB backup image to the new install just as I did to the old HDD?

I also suspect that there is a problem with the Windows 7 install that caused the NTLDR error message. I think that I may need to use the Windows 7 repair Disc to correct any problems, what do you think?
