okay, it took me a while to find time and read about Linux and get the bootable img file going since I'm not a geek, but here we are: it looks like I am now working from the Linux CD I just created.

It felt a bit creepy, but since the whole Linux thing is on CD I guess I'm pretty safe.

I hope you have time to give me further instructions, thanks a lot before.

btw: I installed KDE 2011.6 from PCLinuxOS.nl

Have you looked at the directory yet? Can you find it in Linux or do you need help?

I found it in Linux and deleted the folder where the nasty dll file was in. What would be the next step?

Boot and work normally in W7 I guess, or do you still have an issue that I have not addressed yet? If so, sorry, and tell me... we handle so many threads at the same time, we some times miss some detail...

that's okay. Deleting FilemenuTools was only the 1st step. That's done. Now still have the flwng problems

  • can't start Avast Antivirus anymore
    naamloosavg.png
  • can't instal any new downloaded programs. getting this message with every file:
    naamloos2j.png
  • does not recognize ex. music files. everytime I double click an MP3 file. i have to specify with which program I want to open it (ex. WMP, Winamp)
  • some software seems to be disappeared

All this happened after I transferred a lot of data from my external HD to my PC. Copied, not cut-past.

Would it be helpful if I upload a new HJT-file for you to investigate more indept?

I suppose you are interested to see the log file.
I've tried to open that log-file but was not able / allowed to open it (see 2nd print screen). There is no admin-option in the right-click menu.

Problems as mentioned in my earlier post still do exist. Please advice further. Thanks a bunch for your efforts!

okay, mission accomplished. But things got worse after I did that Repair Install. What happens now that, every time I start my comp, is says there a 87 updates found, and it starts configuring and installing those updates. Until halfway the process , then "Fout bij configureren Wondows updates" appears. Next, it starts over again and halfway skips the next half where it left off and finally my desktop appears as usual.

When I want to switch off my comp, then it comes up again with 95 or so updates and starts to download those (or whatever it is doing), and when it's done, it is finally switching off.

Next time, when I start up again...aahh...you know.. ,,, over and oveerrr againn.

I think I am quite done with this and do a total re-install of W7. Unless you can think up something new., what do you say.?

regards

HeatoftheNight,

This time as soon you have installed Win 7 again AND
immediately install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) Link in my sig,
then
Make a system image backup to an external drive.
Use the Win 7 Backup and Restore for this.

System Image Backup - Create
How to Create a System Image Backup in Windows 7

===========================================
Do Not install any other AV in place of MSE until we are a little further along.
It is imperative that you have a solid system first!

Now you have installed Win 7.
You have installed MSE.

Now install ALL critical updates.
Install ALL important updates.
Install ALL optional updates.

Don't try to be smarter than Microsoft. Don't say wll I don't need that. Just do it. Install each and every update.

Now after all of this, once again do a System Image Backup.

Now and only now, can you start to install some of your favorite programs.

The idea is that you don't want to reinvent the wheel again. You want a solid system as a return point.

Create a system restore point VOR each install of a piece of software.

Creating a restore point has pulled my Castanien out of the fire more than once.

If after using your system for a couple of days, you find the system to be solid and stable, then make another system image backup.
