Windows 7 64bit Home premium Wont Boot Up...help!

Why are you using Linux tools on Win7? This is a Win7 forum.

I gave you the steps to copy out your data using the Win7 DVD or Repair CD which is just as simple.

I have done that..Win7 dvd or repair cd didnt work..!!

We have been waiting for you to run the Hitachi Drive Fitness test, perhaps the very best extended HD diagnostics and repair scan in the business.

Instead of using another OS's tools, please focus on burning the HDFT ISO file to DVD using Windows Image Burner or Imgburn, booting it and running the Extended test.

I have already done that too..read my post again

I asked you if you had burned the Hitachi DFT to CD and booted it to run. It should boot up even if it cannot find the HD and if it doesn't then it is not burned or booted correctly. This is what I was waiting to hear about.

Likewise a correctly-burned Win7 DVD or Repair CD doesn't just fail to boot and load. We need more feedback on what exactly happens when you try to boot one of these. How is it being burned? Has it been used before successfully?

He would need to find another computer to burn the HD test, just as he would to burn a Linux disk. Being able to fix serious problems such as this require access to another computer for these reasons.

Agreed.

I assumed that he already had a Ubuntu CD, based on his problem and original post. :)

Bad sectors indicate that the drive platters have physical defects/damage. There is no magical software that is going to repair them. The best you can do is mark them as bad so that they are not used to store data. If you have a lot of bad sectors that is usually an indication that that hard drive has reached the end of its useful life. IMHO, At this point the more you try to repair it the worse you're likely to make it. My advice is to take the drive out of the PC and slave into another PC. Put it in an external enclosure if need be. Then use the working OS on the second PC to access the drive and get what data you can.

And what were the results of the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test once it was booted correctly?

If you know you're booting it correctly and it doesnt recognize the HD, nor is the HD registering in BIOS, then you need a new HD if the cabling is sound.

Write Off

Thank you guys for your support.. i have been able to access my hard drive through ubuntu...i have saved all of my important data in an external hard drive..
Now i would like to ask if there is any way i could fix my windows boot up problem or repair hard disk bad sectors using ubuntu?:)

If you have saved all of your important data, you may as well "write off" that drive.

As alphanumeric said, that many bad sectors indicates that the HDD:

  • Has been damaged (e.g. dropped whilst running).
  • Is defective.
  • Is worn out.
In any case, it's not worth trusting it to safely store your files anymore.

How old is your machine?
Is the warranty still valid on it?

The HDD may still be under warranty (e.g. WD HDDs have a 3 year warranty).

If not, you'll probably have to "start from scratch".
Make sure to get yourself a HDD imager (I use Macrium Reflect Free Edition) AND create the recovery CD.

  1. Install your OS (and create the repair CD).
  2. Get all the latest updates for your OS.
  3. Install AM, AV, HDD imager (and create the recovery CD) and other programs.
  4. Get all the latest updates for your programs (but DON'T randomly "surf the Internet" yet).
  5. Run your AM & AV programs.
  6. If the AM & AV programs report no problems, backup your machine using the HDD imager (to one or more external HDDs).
  7. Verify the backup(s)!
You should be good to go.

Remember to make REGULAR backup HDD images.
I create a backup image, BEFORE I install any OS updates (e.g. monthly).

I think you drive is non-functional. One more tool to try... SeaTools for DOS | Seagate
Since you have a Hitachi drive some advanced repair options will be unavailable.

You are running HDFT from CD, correct?

If you get the same result from SeaTools or one of the HD tests on Hirens Boot Disk then I would replace the HD.

IMHO, things will only get worse if you continue to try and use that drive. It's been my experience that once you get that many bad sectors more will surely follow. Even if you get windows fully functional that drive will be a ticking time bomb and windows will crash again when more bad sectors show up. As has been said many times in this thread, now is the time to buy a new hard drive and throw away the defective one.
