Solved Win 7 64 BootMGR and others - wont boot

I ran mem test, tested hd from Manf and checked cables. I AM NOT on the computer in question now. While I can get on it.... It is only through cmd prompt. The final issue seems to be BootMgrMissing cntrl-alt-del.....

I went to sleep, woke up and my computer would not boot. I ran the repair utility from the original win 7 cd. Took about 2 hours. I tried to do it a second time I heard that is good stuff? Doing it 2x. But it said it could find no additional errors and I am locked out from doing it again?

I WAS getting multiple disk corruption errors. I ran CHKDSK and it fixed lots of stuff. I do not remember what. I know I$130 errors? I remember them on the MS page and some boot errors...... CHKDSK comes back it is in read only mode. I have also done /f (with other attribs) to pass by this - I dunno why it is in read only?

I have a repair disk I made myself, drive Xthat seems to be something I made? with boot info) and the original win 7 CD. Which should I use?

When I try to run SFC it tells me a repair pending and will not allow me to run it.

When I run bootrec, I do not really know what I am doing. Total installations of windows = 0. I have ran /fixboot (and additional commands) NOTHING really happens.

tried that... When I try the above fix.... The reply from bootrec is instant (it says it is fixed). But, it is so quick I am a bit skeptical it is working - is it always quick? Regardless, it lies - it does not fix it. BAD LYING COMPUTER

I doubt it is hardware. I know it always might be. The night before SAS(super anti-spyware) found come tracking cookies but I do not believe any thing serious. So, I have 3 things to work with win7 cd, a boot repair I made and an X: drive? Did I make that? My C: is functional as well. Surly I can fix this? I HOPE !!!

I hate to suggest this, but you could be looking at having to do a full reinstall - if you cant fix the BMGR problem.

Also try booting with Linux Live CD at least you can run hardware checks from Ubuntu. You should also be able to get at you windows files and save them external before doing an install.

If I have to reformat and reload I will. Not being too CPU Savvy I will take the Advice of the pros

But before that... With a repair disk I made on my own, the windows original(I realize they are the same or similar) and some type of "boot" drive "X:\" there is no other way to replace, exchange, repair or "fix up" bootmgr?

The major things as I have noted:
Chkdsk - some reason it is in read only mode; whatever that is
Bootrec - it is not working for me
SFC /scandisk won't let me run it - says a repair is pending.

One last thing.... About a yr ago.... I some how set up the computer to boot from both the C: and D: drive. Prior to loading it asks me which drive do I want to boot from. I did not do it on purpose. But, I never choose the second one... And just left it be. I just always pressed enter when the dual option came up. Been doing this for about a yr and no issue at all - might this be doing something now? (Interfering with fix?)

Anyhow - TY nigsy... If I need to I will loose the data and just reinstall. But if anything else comes to mind to repair bootmgr or associated files, or anyone reading this thinks of a long shot - KEEP me in mind!

Bootmgr - wont load done generic steps any thoughts?

I am no longer receiving those errors $130...... Check disk said it fixed them.....


Anyone have any thoughts on how I can deal with the bootmgr missing issue? MY last post was a decent summary of what I have done to try to resolve the issue. I have also followed the generic steps here(sevenforums) in the link.......

Running a startup repair three times has a good success rate of repairing the master boot record.

When I try to run start up a second time it says "startup repair can not repair this computer automatically". I scanned that thread, I am going to scan it again......

Didn't I have to some how reset it after each scan? Or does this just mean time to reformat than reinstall... If that fails buy new drive?

Just run the startup repair several times as it picks up bits and pieces along the way.

You've nothing to lose and everything to gain.

If that doesn't do it then you may have to consider a format and reinstall. You need to be thinking of a new hard drive as a last resort, although it may in the end come to that.

Also, have you tried Theog's suggestions?

Oh crap.... I did not mean for that to be big and bold like that. I copied and pasted it. Now it looks big and bold though? I guess I will leave it.

I will run startup repair 80 million times But, that is the error I get. Google says tons of people are getting it.

So, it seems with this error I am getting "bootmgr" 'is missing'. There are only 2 fixes for it? Run repair 3 times. If that does not work sometimes bootrec works. Well, these are the most/only viable solutions for a non-tech type fellow like me? I guess here I come reformat land Makes me wanna vomit on the floor a bit....


TY TY..... IF someone could let me know about that startup repair error? Anyone ever heard of it?

Ya, I did the mem/hd tests..... did the cables.... they are all in working order

I'd try the startup repair probably six times then give up, it does begin to look as though a reinstall is your only option.

I can not run it - windows repair. When I try to run it.... It gives me that error. The one that I copy and pasted, It seems to be a fairly common thing, if you google it.... Only being able to run start up repair once then getting that message. I have no clue why I am getting it - if anyone knows......

LOL that error is kind of bad, I guess? Microsoft had it listed as some kind of software error in their knowledge base - I thought. When chkdsk repaired them it went too quick. Does it make a log? I wrote down results from HD test. Think happy thoughts for me pls - software not hardware error. I will find it and post it in a few min. I can't afford a new HD till next Friday and 'need' my cpu. You are going to jinx me thinking bad thoughts.

I received error 223 "Errors found and repaired" 'hd should be good'. That was all I got no log was made. Damn thing took almost 2 hr for all that.
