anyone tried KOTOR?

Alright, new drivers from nVidia don't do anything. They'll let you play for a while, but after defeating certain creatures the game will crash.

Found the older drivers, going through them systematically and testing them. Also going to try the beta for the next release.

Results will follow.

Hi,

i'm using Windows 7 RC with newest updates.
i have a ati radeon x1950 series
kotor v1.03

my problem the same as the most have: kotor crashes during start and the kotor-hardware-test says my obengl 1.1.0 is to old, i'd need v. 1.4.0. (that was, when i used the newest updates of windows 7 today 4.7.09)
then i downloaded the newest ati-driver for my video cart directly from the ati-home- page, tried kotor, same problem

so i don't know, what to do know.

i'm gonna try psycokings solution. but i'd prefer the solution to downgrade my drive. problem: i haven't find an old driver yet

does anybody know one?

edit:

damn it, can't download psycokings nocd, the fault:

danny, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

found an older driver: ATI Radeon X1950 Treiber Download

but i can't install, because:

Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration.

I know, i don't have the required win xp of course, but im running the setup in comp-mode

i absolutely don't know, what to do now. does anyone?

I can play KOTOR2 without any compatibility setting on until you get to the turbolift on Paragus. It crashed right before it got done loading the next part. I can't remember if there's a video there that might be causing the problem. I'll try it again in different compatibility modes sometime later.

Kotor II runs fine, unless you want to change the graphics settings. Changing any setting in ADVANCED SETTINGS is impossible due to a crash before hand.

I found that if you go into the graphics setting before launching the game it will work. /late response

In case anyone's curious, I managed to get around whatever issue there was by running the game in compatibility mode for Vista SP2. I tried XP SP3 first but for whatever reason my saved game didn't show up when I ran it that way.

Which drivers are you guys using for kotor 2?? I can't get past the launch screens, gets to about the point where the new game, load, ect menus should appear and then crashes.

I am using 186.18 with a geforce 260gtx (192 steam proccesors version).

Tried different compat modes with no luck.

KOTOR 1 works fine for me.

I'm using the latest one for my graphics chipset. I couldn't get past the intro when trying to play on Vista, so either something about the newer driver, 7, or a combination of both is working.

I also made sure to update KOTOR2 to the newest version (1.0b) before trying to play.

Anybody with an nvidia card able to tell me which drivers are working for the game?? I have no been able to get past the loading screens when I run the game with neither admin nor any of the compat modes. But its still problematic and very unstable. If I make a quick character I can get to the game but for a custom character it will crash when press play after creating the character.

I have pretty much the same problem with KOTOR 1, I start the .exe file and it crashes instantly. I have updated my graphics drivers with the newest from nvidia.com, for Win7, I haven't tried patching the game till the latest version though. Anybody have any ideas on solving this problem? Should I try to patch KOTOR till the 1.03 version, and which drivers should I install for it to run?

I would install it, but my game box seems to have dissapeared as I have not played that in over a year.

I played jedi knight 2 jedi outcast fine the other day, but had to window it due to flickering issues in full screen :(

Thanks, that helped.

If it's similar to the issues I'm having with KOTOR2, it will crash randomly when loading new areas, mostly only if I've been playing for over two hours at a time.

KOTOR has installed and ran fine (beat the game) in Vista.
In Seven, it installed fine, though I have not really played past the first part of the battle on the ship.

...
Come to think of it, I think it was freezing on me. Hmmm.... I am not at home (on vacation) but I can mess with this in a few days.

Try installing and running IN VISTA COMPATIBILITY MODE AS AN ADMIN.

your problem is probably because your drivers are up to date. Use an old driver version, try like 6 months old, then a year and so on until you find one that works.

Though most of people here seem to have problems with nvidia drivers, I experience the same problem with an ati card (hd4850): KOTOR 1 crashes right after the Lucas Art logo. Drivers are recent (catalyst 9.8) and I tried all compatibility modes as administrator. I also tried the nocd patch. The game is up-to-date (kotor 1.03) and was runing fine with vista sp2. Does anyone know which ati drivers may work ?

KOtor runs excellent on Windows 7. As I have said many times, please use OLD drivers, not new ones, when trying to play KOTOR

Try Catalyst 8.5

All games like to say "please download the latest drivers" but think about it, when was KOTOR last patched? 2004? So why would you ever *need* 2009 drivers to play?

windows 7 + catalyst 8.5 does not work.
ubuntu 9.04 + wine 1.1.27 + catalyst 9.8 does not work.

@Meyithi: what's your configuration ? do you have an ati card ?
@cokewithvanilla: did you test catalyst 8.5 ? Moreover, kotor is not the only game I'm playing to, that's why I would expect it to work with latest drivers so that I don't have to install a new catalyst configuration each time I change of game. Anyway, the problem remains: maybe with older drivers ?
