Solved svchost.exe -k netsvcs Slowing Down Computer

It's been doing this for a while now, too..

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I disabled windows update a long time ago; if I try to update it now, my system can't handle it, and it reverts its changes.

Help would be appreciated. Where would I start?

Alright, so I've scanned my computer, though some of the problems couldn't be fixed.
I've heard that an additional scan may solve this to an extent.
Should I post my cbs log? Will that help with anything?

Alright, so I've done the scans and the Update reset. What next? Should I check for updates and download all of them?

did it allow the fixes? have you restarted after the sfc scans? you may check for updates, but download & install the smaller updates first, then go for the bigger ones. not all at once as, you will require a restart after installing them and it may lengthen the installation process. go ahead and keep us posted.

It seems that there's always something to fix, and so I don't know if the scans will end.
I'm planning to use windows update after one more scan. Does it matter which order I download the updates in? Is it alright if I download a new update first, then later an older one?

Hello tyg123 ... if you think any of the processes is slowing down your computer, you should get a virus scan at first, for security. Download malwarebytes antimalware free version, update it and and preform a full scan using it. As you have stopped the updates a long ago, this possibility always exist.

After the malware scan ( you have got the system file checker scan already), update windows. At this point, better you apply all the updates.

It is suggested to scan in safe mode when the virus infection does not let you to boot up. If you want , you may run it in safe mode.

I suggested it coz you have stopped updates, and you have some problems with a process. It's just a precaution . Can you tell us what informed you that the process is behind your system's poor performance ? There are a few ways to speed your computer up. Like, run the disk cleanup to remove the junk, disabling startup programs those are not necessary etc. And, if you think that the boot is slow, you can use the boot time deprag option of Puran ( Puran Software - Quality First) .

I would suggest downloading and installing the older updates first. Sometimes older updates are needed to be able to download newer updates. Download about 3 at a time and reboot. This will allow you to see if those updates work okay with your system. It takes time to do it this way but it has always worked for me.

Try putting some of the shared services that can be involved in the process into their own svchost processes. Open an elevated cmd prompt and type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each one to execute the commands:

sc config wuauserv type= own start= auto
sc config winmgmt type= own start= auto
sc config BITS type= own start= delayed-auto
sc config WebClient type= own

Hopefully after you've done this in that elevated cmd prompt, this is what you should see:

Once you've done this and have success executing the 4 commands, reboot your machine and see if that makes any difference.

I have scanned it in safe mode and it caught no viruses.

I realized that my svchost was taking up my CPU when I checked task manager and process explorer after slowdowns after start up.

I'll check out Puran and other processes to see if I can speed up my computer, but I still feel that it'll be slow. I think it has something to do with broken/missing files.

Every update worked except the Service Pack 1 (KB976932).

I have resetted Windows Update and downloaded most of the necssary updates. But Windows service pack 1 is causing trouble for me.

Please explain the problem SP-1 is giving you. The reason I ask is because SP-1 does take about a hour to download and install. You should do nothing on your computer unless it ask you to and it might ask. That is why you must stay with your computer.

I downloaded SP-1, and then restarted my computer so that it may install.
An hour or so later, it's finished. My comp shuts down for a second, then starts back up. It says that it's configuring the updates with a percentage of completion. It reaches about 44%, then stays there for a long time. Eventually, it says that it has failed, so it will revert the changes. It stays on this screen until I hold the power button down and boot the comp until it allows me to access my account.

It never properly configures.

* Did you receive an Error Message with your failed SP1 configuration?
If so we need it please.

* If NO Error number available have you checked in Event Viewer?

Type eventvwr in search.

Go to the Windows Logs > Application / System > in the left hand column.

Note anything in red related to the SPI problem.{same time /day}
Please record the event ID, and the Source Code and tell us what they are.
Note we only require details pertaining to SP1.

* Did you run the System Update Readiness Tool before downloading SP1?

It told me that it had failed to configure changes, and that it would revert them.
I can't check the code because I can't remember the time...
But I'll try the Readiness tool tomorrow and see how that goes.

Alright, I had downloaded SP1 and ran into the same exact problem as before, despite downloading SURT.
