Solved Keyboard Shortcut to launch Folders

To assign a Keyboard Shortcut to a folder, I first send it to the desktop (create a shortcut). Then right-click > Properties > Shortcut tab > Shortcut key..

This works... as long as the shortcuts remain on the desktop.

When I try and move the Folder Shortcuts into a master folder on my desktop, to free up space in my desktop area, the shortcuts no longer launch the folder.

that is just the way it works.... key shortcuts work only for shortcuts on the desktop and not within a a folder on the desktop

If you like, the shortcut itself can be located in either the Start Menu All Programs area, on the desktop, pinned to the taskbar, or pinned to the Start Menu for the keyboard shortcut you assign to it to still work.

Err, no. They do not work with folders withnin folders on the desktop, you're right. But they definitely work for more than just shortcuts on the desktop.

I have a folder full of excel file shortcuts, that still launch according to their assigned keyboard short. It's folder shortcuts that wont launch from within a desktop folder.

I really dislike the fact that you can't simply assign a keyboard shortcut to folder.

Well, it's not exactly what you are wanting, but you could place the folder where you like, create a shortcut of it on your desktop, and assign a keyboard shortcut to the folder shortcut. The shortcut will open the folder itself, but not the shortcuts in the folder.

Yeah no that isn't at all helpful; i'm talking about having dozens of folders that need shortcuts. And i dont want to leave them on the desktop because the eat up too much space.

BUT

Pinning them to the Star Menu > All Programs, as you suggested above, works well for me, so thank you.

HOWEVER

I think it should be noted that you must send the folder to the Desktop, then pin it to the Start Menu > All Programs, and then assign it a keyboard shortcut.

Sending to desktop, assigning shortcut, then pinning to All Programs will *not* work, but that doesn't mean this trick is doable. It just must be done in order.

Yep, the keyboard shortcut will have to be assigned at whatever location the shortcut is to be left at. I'm happy to hear that will work you.
