Solved hard disk changed to dynamic type after using disk management

Will I ever be able to boot my laptop with basic type hard disk?
I followed the steps you guys provided & still failure?

Dont worry mate. As Greg told you earlier, Conversion from dynamics to basic is done many a times, and all those worked.

In most of the cases, it erases all the data off the hdd, but in your case, it just caused a MBR corruption, nothing more. You are lucky from that point of view

Now let me clarify. If after running startup repair 3 separate times using that repair disk, if windows still fail to boot, We will go for another one step. But not rightly now. At first it is run with the system reserved partition active. My best wishes for you, there must be a success .

Edit : Adding .. the most popular way to get rid of the dynamic disk is diskpart clean command. That erases not only the data but also the partitions. Here our experts saved all your partitions and data , just a little thing, which needs a time to be solved, but it must be solved.

So right now I have to create the ISO dvd & boot my lap using that dvd?
Could u please provide me steps to follow while booting from dvd?

OK ... burn the iso, as you did for PW . Then put the disk into the laptops dvd drive and restart it. Now, when power on, press and hold F9 (you know it now ) to get into boot menu, and then choose the dvd drive using the scroll arrow keys, and hit enter.

Boot into it, and follow the steps provided in :ar: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html .

Whatever the result it, you restart the laptop. Boot into that disk again, and run startup repair again. Do it for three consecutive times, with restarts in between every single run.

Then restart the laptop, and let it boot from the HDD. Does it boot now ?

We need that very information.

Did you complete the steps I gave you?

Look at the last steps I gave you below? Did you Rebuild the MBR and then run Startup Repair 3 separate times?

After you post the screenshot and are waiting for us to read it, confirm that the first partition is still marked System Active. If it's isn't, mark it Active by rightclicking to Modify>Set to Active, OK. Then click on the DIsk # to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, OK, Apply steps. Reboot.

If Win7 won't start then boot into Win7 DVD System Recovery Options or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts.

If you need a Win7 DVD to do the repairs use Steps 1 and 2 here: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

But what about using PW CD to Rebuild MBR? I gave you that step first, Arc repeated it, and we have heard nothing back.

So going to factory reset my laptop.

Now will my C drive be basic type or dynamic type?
Now while creating new partitions should I choose them as Logical or Primary or Dynamic type?

You deleted your REcovery partition without asking us first which leaves only the less-reliable Recovery disks to run. You may need to wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean COmmand before they will even run. This must be done with the Win7 DVD or Repair CD which we have linked repeatedly but I seriously doubt you've even tried for repairs.

How about first booting the Repair CD or WIn7 DVD Repair console to run the three Startup Repairs as advised (and ignored) and then report back exactly what happens like everyone else does who wants our help? Do it now.

May I also ask your age, as we are not allowed to help those younger than 13 because they also have no attention span?

A reset would take you back to basic disks and however many primary partitions HP now includes---4 I guess.

Do NOT do NOT, DO NOT make new partitions dynamic.

If your reset results in 4 primary partitions, your best choice would probably be to convert C to logical and then shrink it, using PW.

Another choice would be to delete one of the 4 primary and then create a new logical from the saved space, using PW.

Or you could move what is on System Reserved to C and then delete System Reserved. There are tutorials on how to do that.

I don't know how necessary the HP tools partition is. Maybe it is a candidate for deletion?

HP using the 4 primaries makes it tough because that is the maximum primaries a system can have.

But converting C to logical is probably the simplest thing for you in your situation.

hey Greg,I deleted Recovery drive because I created recovery to dvd's & the drive could be deleted as told to me by HP salesperson.

I created repair dvd & booted using that just like you said but the problem wasn't resolved?

By the way I'm 21 years old.

The MBR is most likely fine. PW looks fine. Even windows starts, but is giving you an autochk error.
If you press F8 on boot you see

Select "disable automatic restart on system failure". And press enter. What happens after boot now?

The registry entry for when the "dirty bit" is set to run chkdsk is:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
BootExecute = autocheck autochk *

Windows tries to find autochk.exe using the system variable path and thats set with another variable "
%SystemRoot%\system32"
If Windows boots as the wrong letter that would become: wrong letter\Windows\System32\autochk.exe

That means I need to keep a backup dvd of the whole laptop besides having HP Recovery dvd's.

Tomorrow I'll post screenshot of how my disk management now looks.Do help me create new partitions & shrink C drive as much as I want.
