Help required with internet connection (Dreaded yellow triangle).

Hello, firstly, I would like to state that this is my first post on these forums and I would like to note that while I will make an effort to abide by the rules of the forum, I may slip up. If I do just let me know.

Anyway, to the matter at hand. For over a year now, I have been using my Alienware M14x laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Up untill now, there have been no problems with it's operation, least of all with it's internet connection. However just recently I have had a major issue with my internet connectivity. When I attempt to connect to my house's WiFi, I can connect to the router, however I am told that there is "No internet access" this is depicted by a yellow triangle the signal strength indicator, this prevents me from using the internet or any online functionality whatsoever. I have tried all of the obvious methods, such as resetting the router and rebooting my laptop. Additionally, I have tried all of the "ipconfig" commands in the console. However, that is the extent of my attempts to remedy this, as I only have a basic knowledge of WiFi/internet.

I have tried searching the web for a solution but to no avail. So I have decided to ask the Windows 7 community personally.

Also, many people with the same problem have posted their "postme.txt" files, so I will aswell, as it may prove usefull.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, as I rely on my laptop for my studying, as well as gaming (it IS an Alienware ).

Again, I would be very appreciative if someone could lend me a hand here, as ths is VERY frustrating for me.

I would unplug the router, wait ten seconds and plug it back in. Wait a litle bit and then try your internet again.

Okay your getting a valid IP from your Router
I would do an
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew.
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
then reboot
Also have you done any updates, added or removed software?

Ok, I'll enter those commands in tomorrow (it's late at night here) and see how I go. As for software or updates, I don't believe I've installed or updated anything.

Can you tell me how many more of those tunnel adaptors are showing up in the ipconfig?

Have you tried disabling the Bluetooth connection yet?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what tunnel adapters are. If you could clarify, I'm sure I could answer that. I've tried resetting all the Bluetooth settings to how they were before this issue popped up but to no avail. Thanks for the reply.

Actually, upon the advice of a friend and a bit of searching on the net, I believe it is possible that my laptop may be infected with the DNS changer virus. Would you happen to know anything about that type of malware if that is the case?

We had the same problem, recently. No Internet access but the router was fine, no connection issues with wiring etc. etc. we went to start menu, selected system restore and rebooted. The computer worked fine and access to net was back, as comp had reverted to previous settings. No documents, photos , personal files etc are harmed either. Works perfectly well. Hope you figure it out, best of luck! #Newmember

Really good idea with the system restore but unfortunately, I was a real idiot and didn't set any restore points (yes it's stupid, I know). So now, I think the best way to solve this is to perform a system wipe and reinstall the os. This would also speed up my computer as I've never wiped it before.

I had a similar problem last week for about a day till I found a virus using hitman pro, it would say I'm connected to router, but no net, but Hitman Pro fixed that.

ps. It would only seem to happen around 5pm central australian time for me.

The tunnel adaptors are right there in your ipconfig, I'm not sure how you could miss them as there are many of them going down the list. This is a common problem and easily solved, just expand the ipconfig and count how many are there. If there are too many of them it will cause problems such as you are describing.

I'm not sure why you are using both connections at once but Windows doesn't handle two connections very well so one of them should be disabled.

Running the file below will clear up the tunnel adaptor problem, just save file, unzip and run either the 32 or 64 bit version.

Ok, however the reason I missed them is, as I stated in my op, a lack of in-depth knowledge about these things. Although now I believe the point is moot, as I will just wipe my harddrive and reinstall my os, this should hopefully fix the problem and speed up my laptop.

Did you ever try plugging directly into your modem or router? I'd be curious if the problem exists in the DNS realm, NIC land, or possibly even a driver. Did you check device manager?
