How to Stress Test a Video Card with Furmark​

1. Download Furmark from the link below.
FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
2. Run the .exe file, and follow the installer choosing the default values. When done, start Furmark.

3. Select your resolution from the drop-down menu, and enable the following:

• Burn-in
• Xtreme burn-in
• Post FX

4. Click "Settings", and select "Log GPU temperature". Press OK when done.

5. Press "BURN-IN test", and the test will start.

6. Watch for artifacts on the screen, and keep an eye on the temperature log. If you see artifacts, or the temperature levels out, stop the test.

Hello mate,

It looks like you have Dynamic Background enabled. That's fine, but if you want to be able to detect defects better, try disabling it.

This only tests the GPU at the OpenGL level. Unfortunately, most games aren't coded for OpenGL but are coded for DirectX instead. Are there GPU benchmarks for that?

It's mostly to benchmark your graphics card, but it can also be used to see how it stands up under heavy loads.

Hello Saber,

You could stop the stress test at anytime you like, but if you want full test results, it would be best to let it run until finished.

It's normal for your system to slow down when running this since it's a stress test designed to push your graphics card to see what it's capable of.

Awesome thread! probably a little late on the posting, so hope you reply...

I am just writing to say I ran the test till about 6000 frames and didn't see any artifacts... I followed your settings and ran the burn-in test and my GeForce GTX 590 only reached a maximum of 85* and didn't seem to increase, although it does get a few degrees hotter whilst gaming, is this normal for a Nvidia Geforce GTX 590?

Also another quick question. I was experiencing artifacts and Display driver kernal crashes then saying that it had recovered after a few seconds. So i tried going back to older drivers and that didn't work. I took out the graphics card and blew out some dust of the heat-sink and fan and also the PCI-E slot and re seated it, and so far I haven't had any problems whilst gaming or no problems with your FurMark settings after running the burn-in test.

Anyways thank you heaps for the walk-through, my graphics card seems to be absolutely fine, but would love to hear your opinion with my previous problems.. Well I hope they stay 'previous' hehe.

Hello Sean, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since you didn't have anymore issues after blowing the dust out, it was most likely an issue with the dust causing the card to overheat some. This could give you the issues you have experienced.

Yeah I was thinking so as I read that some people have fixed issues with dust and improper seating of components, and particularly with graphics issues where artifacts and crashes can be resolved by removing dust and ensuring proper seating of cables and what not.

Hope my issue is resolved, other wise I may have to look at getting a new card.

But seems fine and thanks once again everyone!

Furmark confusing

I have a compaq laptop the crashes periodically when running videos.
Wanted to use this test but am clueless as to what I should be seeing.
I see no temp indicator so am scared to continue.
Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for?

Hell Shawn mate having awful problems with this machine posting in the forums being the worst they keep dropping out.

So I ma working through the components and is this the test that will show up if the GPU is alive or dead.

Just used the Intel CPU test and it passed but being an Ivy Bridge parts are going to be a real problem

I use furmark to stress test revived gpu for 15 mins.

My friend has asked me to repair his HD 4890 2GB, done the iron method then ran the test for 30 mins to make sure and thank god it worked.
