After installing today's (13-11-2012) updates, I constantly get the following message: 'Additional log on information may be required - click to open you browser' If I execute my browser nothing happens (off course) I'm on a cable internet connection which doesn't require log on information what so ever. PC is via Ethernet cable connected to a linksys 54GL DD-WRT router. How can I fix this annoying and stupid problem? Edit] I use OpenDNS

Same problem here and I am also using OpenDNS. I don't want to have to change that. It is autoconfig from my router. I'm hoping that either Microsoft or OpenDNS will figure it out soon. It's very annoying.

The problem also happened on my Virtualbox installation that uses OpenDns. I will wait with updating my system until it gets sorted out.

I use OpenDNS as well and now have the same popup/issue. What makes you think it is OpenDNS? I am on a wired LAN and on a domain. I still authenticate perfectly to the domain, so I suspect this isn't a "real" issue and not related to OpenDNS. Lets hope there is an easy fix .... otherwise I am going to do a restore and start over again.... :-)

I stand corrected.. You all are correct. I just changed my DNS server to Comcast's (75.75.75.75) and the pop up disapears.... Hope OpenDNS is on it!

I received the same pop-up message.

I have un-installed the most recent Windows Updates which I installed a few hours ago (there are about a dozen of them). This has cured the problem. I have not yet determined specifically which Windows Update(s) is/are the cause, but am now slowly re-installing them one at a time to see if I can isolate it.

I hope you get back to us, Tom. I just installed today's updates and I am now getting that annoying pop-up. I also use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and OpenDNS. My first thought was to start uninstall all of today's updates and re-install then one at a time to isolate the culprit. I'll wait a while to see if you provide updated information. In the meantime I am going to the OpenDNS message board to see what I can come up with.

2 important Updates!

It cost me $103, but MS fixed it.
Update #1: MS has since agreed to refund this.

This involves a change in a registry key. Don't do this if you are not familiar with such changes. Always backup your registry first.

Open regedit and navigate as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

Double-click on EnableActiveProbing

Change value to 0.

Update #2:
Reboot
Allow to simmer a couple of hours. (That's simply my superstitious behavior.)
Reboot
Now Revert same value back to 1.

Problem is fixed.

Best Wishes,
Michael

You can also click on the little wrench button on the pop up and click on hide icon and notifications and then it will hide the icon and that notification. Click the arrow on your notification tray to see the network icon.
