Solved Intel Turbo boost, When is it working?

i have a core i7 3610QM. i understand Turbo Boost is enabled through the motherboard bios. i understand i can monitor it when the Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.5 program is open and running. what i am not sure of, is whether or not the turbo boost works all the time, with or without the Technology Monitor program running, or does it only work when the program is open and running.

Turbo boost only activates when you need more processor power. Download CPU Z and look at bottom left corner, that is your current speed, If you put your CPU in a stress test like prime95 this number will increase because of the extra power needed

yes thank you. i know that. that was not my question.

my question was:

At idle when no prograns are running turbo is off. Even with some programs on it is off. It activayes when it needs too. Monitoring software dont usualy activate turbo. But if you open one with a stress test or heavy program it will show the turbo speed

TurboBoost is only activated when the following conditions are met:
* Demand for CPU processing power is reaching or exceeding that of its normal specifications (ie: heavy gaming, video editting, stress tests, etc.).
* Current temperature and other factors are well under specified maximum limits (TurboBoost will not turn on if your CPU is already running at high temperatures, for example).

If and only when these conditions are met will TurboBoost turn on to give your CPU a little extra power to get the job done faster. TurboBoost will turn itself back off once either of the conditions are no longer valid (such as idling or overheating of CPU).

Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 is activated when the Operating System (OS) requests the highest processor performance state. 'Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor' is a Windows 7/8 application designed to display processor frequency activity and highlight energy saver mode. If you disable/remove the 'monitor', 'Intel's Turbo Boost Technology' continues to work as per its design.

The maximum frequency of Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 is dependent on the number of active cores. The amount of time the processor spends in the Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 state depends on the workload and operating environment.

Any of the following can set the upper limit of Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 on a given workload:
- Number of active cores
- Estimated current consumption
- Estimated power consumption
- Processor temperature
