hey all

Iv been experimenting with my pc by overclocking my fx6100 cpu but i cant get passed 3.9ghz. When i set her to 4.00ghz and run benchmarks or stress tests it fails them by saying it could be a cooling issue but my temps are running at 25c on idle and full hits about 55c. So all i have done is turned turbo mode off and adjust the multiplier, to x19.5. If i can get to 4.2ghz i will be over the moon. By the way im a noob when it comes to overclocking lol. All comments welcome and all help is appreaciated.

many thanks
Ryan

what voltages do you use when you are going to 4 Ghz and @ 3.9 what is the voltage also

how are you trying to overclock just Multipler ? or a combination of FSB and Multi ?

Also if you have a LLC feature it would be a good time to tune that as well if you don't understand the term LLC i suggest you start more reading especially on the gigabyte board you have it should easily achieve 4 ghz +

You should do a few youtube searches on your board and overclocking I'm telling you this because overclocking isn't anything simple it is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing

Last but not least Read what the Temp max is on the 6100 chip im using the upper level chips so you might have a bottle neck somewhere do reseach on how people overclocked that chip and what ever you do don't try to match specs with someone because it doesn't come out the same your machine may not like those settings

I trying to give you an Idea of what you will be looking for also don't use any programs do it through the bios for the best and stable results

thanks for the reply. Im overclocking through the bios and just adjusting the multiplier 1 step at a time and once i hit the x19.5 multiplier im stable at 3.9 so far so good. As the voltages and the fsb, i havent touched them there all set to auto and thats including the ram aswell. This is the 1st amd machine iv overclocked so far. My last pc was an intel pentium d from 3.00 to 3.60ghz. As for the LLC im sure my rev1.00 mobo doesnt have that feature but then again i could be wrong on that one.

Raise your voltage one value until you get a stable test in Prime95 or OCCT
If it's stable after two hours with the voltage you set, leave it running all night. If it fails, raise the voltage a little more, and repeat the two hour test. If it passes, test it for longer, if it doesn't pass the two hour one, raise a little more until you manage to break a 12 or even better, 24 hour test to test extreme overclocking stability.
