Item in Startup not running at boot time

Hi All,

New laptop with win7 Pro 64 and I am transferring stuff over from the dying win7 Starter netbook.

On the netbook I had seven Shortcuts in the Startup Folder and they all launched fine at Boot up. I copied them to the win7 Pro Startup and one of them does not run. I can double click the Shortcut manually and it launches fine, just not during the Boot up.

The program is SpeedFan (SF). I have tried using various options in the Compatibility Tab for SF and I have UAC set to Off for Admin boots. Nothing allows SF to launch during the Boot up.

Any suggestions?

Try making a new shortcut for Speedfan and move it to your startup folder.

Did you place shortcut in:
C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ? (this will run when you log on)

Or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ? (this will run when any user logs on)

So NOT on BOOT but on LOGON

Hello CarvedDuck,

This is happening because SpeedFan runs elevated, and Windows will not run elevated programs at startup or log in by default. Turning off UAC doesn't help.

You could use the tutorial below as a workaround to create an elevated shortcut with Task Scheduler. Afterwards, at step 23 use the run at startup as a task option to create another task to run the elevated shortcut at startup without getting a UAC prompt.
