Solved wireless mouse properties not being remembered/activated

I've just replaced my Microsoft Desktop 600 (wired) with the Microsoft Desktop 800 (wireless), the keyboard has no problems, but every time I start up the computer the mouse scroll speed is like lightning (unusably fast), and I have to go into control panel/mouse ... but I don't have to change anything*--once I've loaded that device properties window the settings kick in and the mouse begins to work normally, with one exception--sometimes (I'm not yet sure of exactly when) the wheel-click properties also don't work (e.g., I get an ineffectual 'ding' noise when trying to open a new tab in firefox with middle-click, even though the settings show it should be set for 'default behavior'). ...after a restart and control panel window it will start responding normally, bafflingly.

being both Microsoft products I'm a little surprised it's having this problem (this has been going on since I bought it a week ago ... no amount of shut downs or restarts or changing mouse properties has changed its failure to activate the properties accordingly on start-up).

any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks.

Mate as a general ruel I don't like Microsoft mice full stop keyboards fine. Did you get installing the mouse software message when you first plugged it in? if not then you might try checking is the driver is up to date in the Device Manager or you could try here

Microsoft Keyboard & Mouse: Wireless Keyboard 800 | Microsoft Hardware

If this doesn't work then I would go for a Logitec mouse.

If this doesn't work then I would go for a Logitec mouse.

it did some install, but I don't know if it was for the mouse specifically (both use the same receiver, so I would imagine it set up both), and under 'Mouse' in Control Panel it's listed as "wireless mouse 1000". driver is from 2011, 'update' button is greyed out, so I'm downloading those (surprisingly large) installs from the page you linked.

ok, I've just installed both programs you linked to, and restarted.
this has fixed the scroll speed problem, but once again I got the "DING" when I tried to use the middle button in FireFox to launch a link in a new tab, _but_ I went to control panel, and I see this new program has taken over for dealing with these settings, anyways, looked around and realized it was set as "paste" instead of "default", so...problem solved.

thanks mate :)

ETA: oh dude, this program is REALLY cool!! I don't know _anything_ but I've just manged to make a 'macro' for a program specific function that is awesome! so userfriendly :D
ETA 2: you have no idea how long (ever since I got Win7!!) I've wanted this "F10, 5, Shift+M" macro for Wordpad!!! next best thing to being able to put custom colors right on the ribbon like a paint pallete. would've never tried to figure out what the keys were without the help of this program.

last question: now that task manager shows "itype.exe" do I need "ipoint.exe" anymore? (ipoint was a program I often saw on there even before I went wireless).

Ok Lyko if it ain't broke mate I'd be leaving it as is unless you start to get any other problems with it:)

Just one last thing if you want a little more out of the machine try this if you don't mind losing a bit of the "bling" like transparency

transparency? lol, embarrassing confession: I was on Windows ME before I got 7 and very quickly tweaked 7 to look like ME (small clean sharp grey edges, no childlike XP, no sleek 7)

Ah well you are part way there then:) The other optimise stuff you will find makes the machine that much more "efficient". I do the items for anything on any fix Vista and XP as well but the XP is a little less work to do;)
