Solved windows live email, messages very slow to open

I have been using WL email for the last couple of years, with no problems, but for the last couple of weeks, although the program opens quickly enough, and the messages are shown quickly enough, it takes a long time (20 seconds?) for the messages themselves to open. Before, they would open almost immediately. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Btw, I've performed complete and extensive scans of my computer with both Windows Security Essentials and with Malwarebytes Anti-malware programs and nothing has shown up. I appreciate any and all help offered.

Hi greyspirit35,

There may be many reasons for the slackness in 'Windows Live Mail'. You may try the following steps; are likely to help:
1. Try keeping the 'Hardware & Software' in good shape: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html

2. Try repairing 'Windows Live Mail':
- Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Windows Live Essentials 2011 > Right click it and click Uninstall/Change > Click 'Repair all Windows Live programs' > Allow the process to finish > Check performance after restarting the system

3. You may also check for any pending updates (Windows Live related). Also check the 'Windows Update History' to see if any 'related updates' failed to install: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24367-windows-update-view-update-history-details.html

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

live email messages slow to open

Thank you Saurabh A for responding to my "call for help". I did the repair job on windows live mail as described by the excellent instructions provided, but I"m sorry to say that it made no difference. Windows live mail still opens messages too slow. Mind you, once a "first" message has opened, subsequent messages open without hesitation. However, if you then close windows live mail, and check it at some later time, you have to go through the same process all over again.

Btw, yes, I checked all your other suggestions to make sure everything conformed as it should.

Any other ideas?

Ooops...my apologies! On checking again, I find that it seems to be working fine now! I'm afraid I was a bit hasty in my judgement. I'll see how things go in the days ahead. If the problem recurs, I will be back. If I'm not back, :-) then you can assume the "fix" was permenent.

Hi greyspirit35,

The 'Repair Function' appears to have fixed the latency.
Glad that you're getting better results now. Please observe the performance and do reply if you face any issues; will take it forward from there.

Hi Saurabh

I jumped the gun when I said it was now all fixed. :-(( Sorry! I've now been observing it carefully for over a week and this is how it operates: When I first do the "fix it" operation, it works fine. Even if you close it out and come back, it still works fine. However, if you leave it for a half hour or so...(or more of course) it's right back to the original "slow to open" behaviour. It seems like something is blocking it for a half a min or so, the "fix it" removes that impediment...but only temporarily, until it returns to continue the blocking action. ??? Any ideas on what could be causing that?

Many thanks for your past help, I am grateful.

Hi Robin... I"m using WLM 2012, have been since it came out.
that might actually be your problem. it turns out that WLM2012 is a bit flacky
You cannot send out a group catagory, you can make it, it shows all your contacts but you cannot send it out.Microsoft is aware of this problem, also what I have seen on the WLM Micrososft forum others are having other problems also
You can try going here and see if you can ask our question or you might actually find your answer

Hi greyspirit35,

Thank you for the reply.
As pointed by 'robinb9', it could be an issue with the newer version of 'Windows Live Mail 12'.

You may also try the following steps to see if they help:
1. Try a new 'User Account': Please create a new 'User Account' and check how the emails work with 'Windows Live Mail'. To create a new account, please refer to this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/181024-user-account-create.html

2. Check for any pending updates (Windows Live related). Also check the 'Windows Update History' to see if any 'related updates' failed to install: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24367-windows-update-view-update-history-details.html

3. Check if the problem is at the 'Server end': You may try creating another email (for testing purposes) with a different 'Email Service Provider' (Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, etc.) and check results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Hmmm, this thread is marked solved, but is it?

MS iterations of mail have always had a few limitatins, most notably with indexing. The easiest way to see if this is causing the problem is to move mail out of the inbox.

Create a folder named Rcvd un the Storgage Folders (do this in WEmail 2012, not in Explorer)
Navigate to your inbox and select all (Ctl + A)
Right Click the selected msgs and select move
specify Rcvd as the destination folder

Close WEmail 2012 relaunch it.

How do you connect to your provider, POP3 or IMAP?

Try these two things:

[1] move your email store folder to a new folder on the C: drive (e.g. 'email')

[2] move your Temporary Internet Files folder to a new folder on the C: drive (e.g. 'temp')

Then delete anything in the Temporary Internet Files folder's subfolder 'Content.IE5'. You may need to unhide dfiles and folders to see these.
