Display driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered

I've been having this problem pretty much ever since I got my computer in November of 2012. "Nvidia kernel mode driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The computer would be unresponsive and then go black for a few seconds before that message pops up. I've tried doing a clean install of the most recent driver for my graphics card, and tried uninstalling the card and reinstalling it with no luck. The thing is, I was having an issue with my network adapter before the issue with my graphics card started. Every time I would download something, be in a Skype call, watch a video, or just be browsing the internet, the network status in the taskbar would say I have no internet access and I'd lose internet. I'd then click on "Open Network and Sharing Center," click on the "!" button, and the troubleshooter would fix the problem. I think it reset the network adapter every time I had the troubleshooter run. I downloaded a program called DriverMax and installed a newer driver for my network adapter, which fixed the problem, but once I did that, the problem with my graphics card started happening where it would stop responding and recover. It might be a conflict in drivers or something, but how would I fix this? My graphics card is a GeForce GTX 460, motherboard is an Intel D955XBK, and the network adapter is an Intel(R) PRO/1000 PM Network Connection (10.0.0.11).

I had the same problem and had to go to the site of the video card manufacture for a driver. In my case that was MSI. MSI made my Nvidia 460 O/C card and their driver fixed the problem.

I went to the Nvidia website and had it auto-detect my graphics card to find the most recent driver for it and downloaded it. I performed a clean install and the problem still persists.

What brand is your card? Who made your card?
EVGA
MSI
PNY
ASUS
are brand names of companies who use Nvidia chip but might use different drives.
-----
My Nvidia card is sold by MSI and their drivers are different than the ones I receive from the Nvidia site. This is just a suggestion of something you can look into. A GT460 is made by many with the Nvidia chip.

Ah, okay. I found out the brand is Gigabyte, so I went to the site and found the driver for my card. I performed a clean install with that driver and I still get the same problem. What do I do?

Are you monitoring the temperature of the card?
Is the fan on the card working?

Driver files do get corrupted over time, but reinstalling the drivers will normally fix that.

If these two problems are related (network and graphics) then the only common factor I can think of is power. Not so much the power supply, but power on the motherboard.

On of the common causes of odd power problems on a motherboard is dust and hair (particularly hair that gets caught in PCI and RAM slots. The debris can cause low level short circuits especially if it is humid.

And of course a thick blanket of dust will cause overheating problems.

As a precaution you could clean out the case with compressed air, then re-seat all the components, checking their slots for debris. Don't forget to check the power plugs - and check for positive attachment.

Apologies for my lack of a response everybody. I'll be going to Staples tomorrow to pick up some compressed air and I'll try thoroughly cleaning and re-seating everything. I also tried what Layback Bear suggested, but the installation keeps failing. I tried the iso version, too. This is the message I get: "Installation of the "Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7" product has reported the following error: Please refer to Samples\Setup\HTML\ConfigDetails.htm document for further information." I've been monitoring the temperatures with SpeedFan and the GPU is always between 30-35C at all times. The only thing that occasionally exceeds that is the CPU which is usually between 40-47C.
