Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

Hello,

This is my first thread on Seven Forums woot! I am not very tech savvie at all! SO I really might need handholding throughout this entire process. Hopefully you'll be able to help!

Turned on my PC. Internet not working. All other PCs in the house still connect, mine doesnt even pick up that anything is there. When I troubleshoot it comes up with "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings. I've been to about 10 different threads about how to fix the problem. They either don't work or completely loose me on their 14th prescription.

I've ran virus checks on my Avira Antivirus software coming up with nothing. I have downloaded about 10 suggested virus software things to no avail. I have tried system rebooting, but it says that it was unable to complete the process.

I'm kind of at a loss here. I kinda rely on the internet for work. I'm having to do this via my friend's mac (Ugh Macs) so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you install anything prior to this happening? Such as drivers, updates, anti-virus etc?

I think the only download was a pdf. file purhase I downloaded from an rpg website. I hadn't installed any new anti virus software prior, nor updated any software or installed any drivers. Possible it was just a virus I caught off a dodgey site?

I would say so. It could be your anti virus that causing it.

Another update. My firewall and Norton Antivirus Software are both turned off, and I am unable to turn them back on. When I open up my firewall it says "There was an error opening up the windows firewall snap-in. Restart the windows firewall service on the computer you are managing. Error Code: 0x6D9"

After reopening it multiple times and restarting my PC, this isnt making any difference.
