MSE Error Code: 0x80073b01/Issues with Malware, MSE, and Webroot

I just had a clean install done on my laptop. Someone downloaded something onto it, I can't find it, and the anti-virus I am using, Webroot, detected 4 different malware infections. I tried to clean the files with Webroot, and it could only get rid of 3, so I tried Malwarebytes Pro, but it did not locate the file. The last security program I attempt to run is MSE, but when I tried to open it it said it was corrupted. I tried to uninstall, but I was given the message that I did not have permission to perform the action. Since I just had a clean install I decided to try a system restore. I first tried the farthest restore point listed, but it and the following one would not perform the action for some reason. My third attempt, restoring around the same time I was infected, was successful, and Webroot was still saying I was infected until I ran a system scan when magically the malware was gone/not detected.

So, here are my issues: since Webroot couldn't find what it had found in the past, does that mean I'm clean? Secondly, how do I uninstall MSE, so I can reinstall? Thirdly, Webroot is very sensitive and won't let me open compressed files, even though they come from a trusted source. Even though it states that 50 infections have been cleaned/cleared do you think that I could get rid of it and find something as good/better, or should I keep it and figure out how to manually adjust the filters (I don't want to do that). If you have any security software that you feel is better please let me know. There is a ton, but I don't want anything too bulky or doesn't work. Have you paid for Webroot, or is this a 30day trial? You don't want to run both Webroot and MSE on your computer.

Antivirus programs are resource hogs and will fight each other for your system's resources, as well as possibly fight each other's virus definitions.

What browser are you using? You may have what is called 'Adware', that some Anti-virus products don't detect.

Let's see if AdwCleaner finds something that might have been overlooked ...

1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.

Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

Sorry for the delay. Installed adware, ran as admin., and the log is in the attachment. Thanks for your help with this issue, hopefully everything is okay.

If you want to uninstall MSE ? You could use RevoUninstaller .

Please download and install Revo Uninstaller Free
Double click Revo Uninstaller to run it.
From the list of programs double click on MSE to remove
When prompted if you want to uninstall click Yes.
Be sure the Advanced option is selected then click Next.
The program will run, If prompted again click Yes
when the built-in uninstaller is finished click on Next.
Once the program has searched for leftovers click Next.
Check/tick the bolded items only on the list then click Delete
when prompted click on Yes and then on next.
put a check on any folders that are found and select delete
when prompted select yes then on next
Once done click Finish.

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

I do not like Webroot; it will not allow me to open the security program, it is calling it malware, and that the parameters are undefined. I have MalwareBytes Pro right now, can I just get rid of Webroot and forget it as a piece of software that's way too touchy for me. Then install MSE after it's all figured out? Or something else?

Also, VistaKing Revo uninstaller could not find MSE. I tried the hunter utility, but all it found was my CCleaner on the desktop.

Wow. I have no idea what Webroot is doing. I tried to download the security program again and magically Webroot let it slide through. I want to remove this crap. So the log is in the attachment. Thanks again.

Inside RevoUninstaller look for something called Microsoft Security Essentials

VistaKing, I tried the free version again and I couldn't find it, so I installed the trial version of pro, it found it, and after realizing I needed to delete the registry entries and files, it is gone. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Ah I forgot the version of MSE . You installed the 64-bit . The free version only is able to see 32-bit programs . For removing the 64-bit programs you would in fact need to download and install the 30 day trial of RevoUninstaller Pro .
