How long have you been using Windows 7

Evidently not long enough, 1yr. 3 mo's. I keep reading that it's easier & better than XP, but I sure didn't have all the problems, or at least what seem like problems anyway, with XP. As a matter of fact, I've been a big PIA at this forum over it.

I started with DOS 1.0 using the "original" IBM PC. Around the time of Windows 2000 I switched to Linux for a few years. I came back to Windows when I couldn't find real software for video. By then, I went directly to Win 7. I've played around with Win 8 at Costco and liked it but don't want to lay out all the money for new monitors.

Don't have to mate. You can ignore Metro completely with 3rd party apps.

And even if you do like the Start Screen (a.k.a. Metro) like me, it is extremely easy and surprisingly nice to use with a mouse with scroll wheel.

I have not a single touchscreen although I have Windows 8 on all my PCs laptops and desktops alike, Seven remaining on virtual machines only. For me the touch screen is a no go (except in tablets) because I want to have my displays about 80 cm (1.6 feet) from my eyes meaning they are too far to be used as touch screens.

Got a free windows 7 upgrade disk when I bought a new computer 4 years ago the worst part I remember was the disastrous transition of personal files from vista all of them pretty much doubled and where not intergraded in the correct "My" folders
If I hit the yellow folder on the taskbar every single file appeared not the separate library categories :shock:
So after straightening out that mess it wasn't bad at all.
Windows 7 is much better after a fresh install last year on both machines

Since I got this computer, maybe for 1 year, 11 months, 25 days, I got my PC on May 27, 2011, in 2 days, my PC will be 2 years old.

First install on this system - 10/01/2010. This is the original install.

This is the first time I have had an OS run stable for this long, so you can guess how pleased I am with it.

In fact, this particular install has survived a complete system change (CPU, motherboard, RAM, various video cards) without once needing a reinstall or even a driver overhaul. It was an amazing experience to have changed the motherboard (chipset [G965 to P45] and manufacturer [Intel to Gigabyte]) and CPU (C2D 6600 to C2Q 9550) and then see 7 boot up seamlessly and retrieve and install all the drivers by itself, just as though it was all business as usual and nothing had changed.

Absolutely Rock Solid OS.

I now intend to upgrade to ASRock Z77 Extreme6 + Intel Core i7 3770K. Let us see if the OS can repeat the feat.

my mom had bought a Toshiba in early 2009 that originally ran Windows Vista, but a year later it crashed and she bought a new one running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit and then a few months after she bought this one her first one got fixed and she was able to get Windows 7 on it and she gave me this new one she only had for a few months and I used it for at least over 2 years and then I got a new one for Christmas this past year and it was running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, so basically I have been using Windows 7 for 3 years and just joined this site not too long ago, I should have joined when I first started using Windows 7

Today marks my 2 years of usage of W7, bought it on May 27, 2011, PC is still good.

I downloaded (on dialup!!!) the beta of 7 the day of it's release, and 7 has been on at least one machine ever since.

In early 2009 I bought a brand-new laptop with Vista Home Premium 32-bit installed. While I was quite familiar with Vista, having beta-tested it, this was my first 'retail' version (I'd been on XP till then, mainly because of MS' pricing here in Oz). But it only lasted approximately 24 hours before being replaced with the 7 RTM. That machine now runs Win 7 Ultimate SP1 32-bit. Flawlessly. Without issue. And it always has.

This laptop came in February last year, with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. It stayed until last August when the Win 8 RTM went on. This machine now runs Win 8 Pro w/Media Center (W8 Ultimate, basically), and I love it now that I've customised it to suit me, and not a tab/phone user (I did not like the OOBE very much). But the W7 install is backed up as a sys-image, and is regularly restored and updated.

There are things I like and dislike about both OSes, but I can live with/get around almost all of them, which is why I don't take sides in the Win 7 vs Win 8 Great Debate. Nor do I tend to actively engage in Win 8-bashing on EightForums, just as I do not bad-mouth Win 7 or Win 8 here.

So yes, been using 7 since the beta's release, and still using today.
