the user profile service service failed the logon user profile cannot

Negative VistaKing when I tried to log in with my original account Matteo received this message:

You have been logged on with a temporary profile

What can I do now?

S-1-5-21-724269861-727063738-2825992131-1000.bak pointed to C:\Users\TEMP account that Windows 7 creates when you try to login to your original account . It gets created when you receive the error Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile

Can you get to the registry . Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Click on this folder S-1-5-21-724269861-727063738-2825992131-1000 on the right side does it have a 0(zero) for STATE and REFCOUNT ?

If you have .bak with the same key as above . Delete that key with .bak at the end .

   Note

S-1-5-21-724269861-727063738-2825992131-1000 should have C:\Users\Matteo where it says ProfileImagePath on the right side

for RefCount it has REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

I've deleted the .bak

yes it has C:\Users\Temp.Matteo-VAIO.002

Delete the Temp.Matteo-VAIO.002 account . Go to Computer either from the Start menu or double clicking the icon on the desktop . Double click on the C:\ drive double click on Users folder . Right click on Temp.Matteo-VAIO.222 choose Delete . Close the Users folder .

Go to the registry navigate back to


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Locate the S-1-5-21-724269861-727063738-2825992131-1000.bak key should have C:\Users\Temp.Matteo-VAIO.002 on the right hand side next to ProfileImagePath . Delete the key with the .bak key . Then click on the key without the .bak on the right side right click on STATE choose modify on the modify window change the key to 0 ( zero) don't write the word zero . Then click on Ok button . Do the same with RefCount . Close the registry and restart the PC .

and by the way I went back to registry and did modifications as per your instructions on the line without the .bak

Use this to take ownership of each folder then delete .

Unzip the folder . Right click on the .reg file and choose Merge and click Yes then Ok .

Once you've successfully merged the reg file into your registry . Right click on every folder listed above and choose Take Ownership ( you will see a command prompt open up and run some files and disappear ) then right click on each folder again and choose Delete . Then in the registry delete the .bak key and update the key for the one without the .bak with putting Zero inside State and RefCount . Close registry restart PC . Try to log into your Matteo account in normal mode .

Hi VistaKing,

sorry for the delay I was having dinner.

I unzipped the file and right click on the file "Add_Take_Ownership".reg than merge but this si the response:

Cannot Import C:\Users\madmatt\Desktop\Add_Take_Owership.reg: Error accessing the registry

I am at the moment logged in with my new account madmatt (the one you suggest me to create) and not the original Matteo account which works only in safe mode.

Do I still have any hope to restore my Matteo account?

Is the new account an admin account ? Try double clicking on the Add_Take_Owership.reg to merge the reg file .

Thanks a million for the advice, I believe I was able to create a new account with admin level...let's see if I can follow through the entire OPTION TWO suggestion :huh:

the new account should be an admin account, anyway is it possible to double check?

I tried double click on the file but gives the same error

Open up a command prompt .

Type the command below as it is

net user %UserName%

press <ENTER>

Scroll to the bottom where it says " Local Group Memberships" should see *Administrators if its in the Administrators group

You're not inside the administrators group .

To add mad Matt to the administrators group . Open up command prompt

Enter the command below

net localgroup administrators madmatt /add

press <Enter>

That is why it was asking for your Matteo password cause you're not in the administrators group .

Once you have done the steps above . Restart the PC 2 times to unlock all of the User Accounts and then try the previous registry instructions .

:ADDED:

On the madmatt account try to merge the .reg file once more . You could right click on the reg file and choose merge or you could double click and choose Yes or OK to continue .

I did everything on the register:

- Didn't find the line with .bak
- Added 0 to the line ending 100 for the two Stats and Profs
- Noticed that the line ending 102 had an 8 on the Profs

Restarted and logged in with Matteo (original account) but still gives a message: You have been logged on with temporary profile.

I've noticed your ADDED comment so I did merge once more the file add take ownership when logged in as madmatt.

Should I restart and try to log in as Matteo (original account)?

Take ownership of the TEMP ( all of them ) then delete the User Accounts .

Then go to the registry and delete the SID that ends in .bak then change the State and RefCount to 0 (zero) for the Matteo account . Then restart and try to log into the account .

The restart should be done logging in with madmatt account or Matteo account?

To delete the TEMP accounts I simply go in c:\Users?

Yes once you're done adjusting the registry close the registry restart the PC and try to login to the Matteo account .
