Network card - Ethernet not plugged in

...
I'm connected to a Router/homenetwork using a REALTEK PCIe GBE Family Controller and computer specs are in my profile.
...

The fact that I live on campus and connected to the UNi server, I dont think I know what kind of router the uni use and even if i know, it is impossible for me to fix it....

You mentioned in your first post you are connected to a Router / Homenetwork. If this is the case, knowing what Router you have could help to find an answer to your problem.

If you just plug yourself to the wall and further to your University network, then it is not important.

OK, I found what I was looking. Your router allows one computer to be connected with USB. It requires drivers from accompanying CD.

Could you try connecting your PC to router with USB. If this same issue continues, we at least know the fault is not in the NIC. If, however, everything works fine we know fault is in the NIC.

yeah tried that already didn't work. I say its a windows 7 x64 bug.. because ALOT of people are having similar if not the same problem so... must have been an update or something that made networks crap. Majority of the time i get Ethernet cable is not connected some times my network card card just vanishes from the Device manager list. so yeah i dunno TRIED everything uninstalling photoshop itunes bonjour Changing drivers updating drivers disabling Ivp6 but some times i get a good run.. where the internet / network card seems to stay on for a few hours but then "ethernet card is not connected"

All that is left I can think is to check your chipset drivers are up to date, and maybe try to install Realtek NIC drivers in Vista compatibility mode.

I'm sorry, can not think anything else.

Everything is fine when i am just using Mozilla firefox no msn vent and stuff running just Mozilla firefox.. but when i load up a game and start playing online 2-3 mins in Net drops out reverting to "Ethernet Cable not plugged in" so my guess its something with the bandwith or the amount going out/in i dunno maybe the guru's can add some 2 cents

I think it has to do with win x64 too. Since I was thinking that maybe it was because I connected to my Uni server, it is not compatible yet but you are different, u connected to ur home router. Mshroom, by any chance u have vista x64 too ? If yes do u have this problem ?

How old is this router? If it is not brand new, or even if it is, then you should update the firmware.

This may just be an error in that... If that fails, you could try some third party router firmware, which will probably work much better.

Something like that... I'm still thinking this could be a router related problem; if same issue occurs using USB connection, it is IMO not a NIC problem.

Definitely not a NIC problem since I would doubt that my Uni router have problem since it has just been maintained. Is there any one from MS around in this forum. I hope they will come and have a look at this problem >.< My Nic is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller YEP same NIC as me.. infact its a problem with realtek man like i said. it appears realtek NIC's are having issues with windows 7 is what i have been reading. Although the NIC is 100% perfect its just Realtek drivers or what not arent really working with Windows 7 but... hey i could be wrong I'm probably gonna go buy a cheap Different brand of Network card to test it out.

Well mushroom, if u do go buy a different brand of network card, let me know the result k? I'm looking forward to your test out. If it is the reason, i'm sure realtek and MS will fix it soon . Finger Cross
