Inserting any USB object, causes Windows to freeze up.

Hey everyone, just curious if this is just me or if its happened to others.

Just a quick note as well, this has happened on multiple installs, and different ISO Sources (latest is an official technet, non-torrented/stolen ISO).

Anyways, when I plug a USB item into any of my USB ports. Sometimes Windows just freezes and requires me to hold the power button to restart, this happens whether I plug in my Microsoft Wireless Arc Mouse USB Dongle, 3 Different USB Flash Drives, two are from the same company, one is not (lol).

Anyways. I didn't post this earlier mainly due to it not bothering me, but when I plug it in, DURING A MOVIE I don't want to have to reload the entire dang thing

So am I alone or is this a known issue with I'm guessing my chipset?

looks strange. uninstall your old chipset drivers and install the latest to see if that helps.

Already have. I tend to keep everything up-to-date even if that means my graphics act worse then they did with the RC drivers (damn you intel).

Its a laptop.

I only have 3 USB Ports, 1 on the left, 2 on the right.

Uninstalling those things/restarting didn't work Dinesh.

I'm having the exact same problem with my computer. Only USB thing that doesn't cause a freeze-up is a wlan stick, but 2 usb-sticks and a usb hard drive causes windows 7 to completly freeze. I have updated my chipset drivers and done everything I could imagine that would help but still no luck.

If someone finds a solution, please post it!

Last bios update to my motherboard (abit an52) is about 2 years old and I doesn't help

BIOS is as up-to-date as possible. HP is the only place to get a BIOS update for my board.

Last BIOS Update was a few weeks after SP2 for Vista, that was to address compatibility issues.

I have been having the exact same issue as DarkNova and have not been able to find a solution to the issue.

I have found however If I plug the USB before I start it, or resume from sleep it will work 100 precent of the time. If I plug the USB in while the OS is up and running it will freeze about 4/10 times... which has gotten very annoying.


I noticed it started after I upgraded from a previous version of 7... So it might just be a bug in the RC operating system.

Could it be a bad install? If you have Ultimate Nova than make a VHD of a Windows 7 image and add it to the bootloader....run the VHD and see if the issues occurs
