What was your first Experience with a PC/OS ???

MY first computer was a Commodore-64 with a cassette tape drive in April 1983. I got the game Monopoly on tape & that was first game I ever played on a computer. My favorite game on it was "The Sword of Fargoal" I used a M$ dos program for the past 21 years in my business. I just recently had to upgrade it to a WinXp version as the software company is no longer supporting M$ dos. :shock: I have used just about every version of Windows on different computers in the past 25 years.

No, I was trying to make sure I wasn't remembering incorrectly - I never worked on Macs that much, and at that time and age the numbers on the Moto processors were foreign to me....

I knew there was a 680xx series, but I had never heard of a 600xx series - thus my confusion.

And, agreed, McBlz, I have used just about ever version - I never got to play with NT 3.5/3.51 and its predecessors, and I never actually played with Windows 1/2 either....

Was there another company, such as HeathKit, or someone else, that had a machine that looked very similar to that? If not, then my friend who lived down the road had a Dad who worked on a machine much like that when we were in grade school....

I'm not sure about the particular company but a lot of the PLC ( as in Programmable Logic Controllers), manufacturers used that case design, (or variations of it as hardware changed), throughout the eighties and early nineties, for their system programming tools, The cases were built like a brick outhouse so I suppose they just lasted a long time, and of course they were not much bigger than laptops back then

Yes the first pc's for the public. Mine was the Oric 1. I also used a ZX81.

Well, the first PC I ever owned/used was an IBM XT 286, but I also owned a TRS-80, an Atari 2600, and an Amiga 2000. The Amiga had a 7.16MHz processor and 512 KB of RAM, hah.

Anyone else ever use the Oric pc?

My first was a 486 with 4 meg of ram running windows 3.11.
I then saw a friend running windows 95 and my jaw dropped. Ran out bought a copy and could not install it. ( i was a complete noob and did not know that my floppy drive had died on me)
Then i thought it would be cool to see what 'Delete partion meant' suddenly no more win 3.11
Then i got a 133mhz with 16 meg ram FINALLY could install win 95. All good until eventually it happened. Win 98 came out.
So there i was, now i tried to install it and it would install but the reason i got rid of the computer was because it took 6 mins to boot 98.
I then left computers alone for a couple years until i got a tax rebate, my friend had opened a computer shop i popped in one day and then i fell in love.

and a whopping 128 Ram. and a 8 meg graphics card. And a funky orange case.


So there it is from there on in, a vast majority of my income spent keeping up with the jones's but i love it
