You are correct Jeff...but I don't think a quality difference will occur between mine from Hong Kong (which are gold plated just like the wal-mart ones) and the wal-mart ones themselves

Jeff the quality difference may come from the length also. Could be wrong here but the less it travels...the better the look. Mine are exceptionally long

Did I offend you in some way..?

No, not offended in any way whatsover. Usually this type of response is long from me because if I am just short with the answer, people usually say

--he's just jealous he doesn't have 1080p
--he has no idea what he is talking about. 1080p owns 720p.

The difference is actually quite astounding on my Sony Bravia 40" LCD with Sky+HD, even though the maximum output from Sky is 1080i.

I also have a PS3 but at the moment it is nothing more than a glorified Blu-ray player, and a very fine one at that. :p

I tend to use my Xbox 360 for gaming, not that I am a very big gamer, I just can't resist Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Street Fighter IV.

1080p does indeed own 720p

The difference is actually quite astounding on my Sony Bravia 40" LCD with Sky+HD, even though the maximum output from Sky is 1080i.

The reason the difference is astonishing is because your source (Sky+HD) is pushing out a 1080i signal...again it's the source that really matters.

If you were to push that exact same signal out to 2 properly calibrated displays, with 1 at 720p and 1 at 1080p...from a viewing distance of over 3ft....the human eye wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

People are very confused by this. You often see people who compare the picture quality of their old TV to their new TV and talk about how much better it is. Well, that is often due to better optical components and not the resolution. Of, they also get a BluRay player with their new 1080p and are blown away by how great it looks. Again, it's the source that matters and not the resolution outputted.

So, for example, if you had the same blu-ray playing connected via the same HDMI cable, 1 on a Panasonic 42" 720p plasma properly calibrated and 1 on a Panasonic 42" 1080p plasma display properly calibrated, at 6ft back you would be hard pressed to find anybody who could identify with any accuracy which set is which.

Again, at the end of the day, it's the SOURCE which really matters. A high quality 1080p source has all the bits and bytes and data to present a truly outstanding image. When that image goes to a 720p display, the tv simply downgrades the impeccable signal from 1080 lines to 720 lines and displays it. Well, since it was nearly a perfect image, nothing bad happens during the down conversion and with human vision, it's still absolutely remarkable.

Its the XBOX then...

If your bold memorize the button presses from power on to the Display Settings menu on the XBOX. Before you hook up the component, switch the XBOX to component as source. Now the screen wont be readable so turn off the XBOX. Hook up the component and make sure the TV is on component. Fire up the XBOX and you should now have an image

If you are a gran turismo fan...you should be playing Forza 2 or waiting for Forza 3. They are far more similar in nature to Gran Turismo than Grid. Not that Grid isn't a fun game, but it's an arcade racer versus more of a simulator racer.
