Run dialog with administrative privs?

That's the one. I know because I correctly spelled it in my first grade school spelling bee. All of the other kids failed miserably.

So, I should go to the local elementary and find a kid to isolate why the volume icon is connected to UAC? brb.

If you enable UAC, reboot, then install your audio hardware devices (and software if needed) it might make the icon start working again correctly.

I think that is a good idea. A kid from my niece's 3rd grade class is coming over tomorrow to do that. I got a good deal - $35 and a bag of Skittles.

Every movie I suggested was answered, "Seen it".

But seriously, I will do the reload. And then, try to re-create the error. There is at least one report on SF where the OP states the red X with working sound.

The only Antman executed change was UAC enable.

I get that occasionally after I start my computer. If I push either the volume up or down or mute keys on my keyboard, it goes back to normal!
