Major torrent issues

So I have been very impressed by Windows 7 so far, but I have hit my forst major annoyance. It is extra annoying because it doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else. Basically, torrents just plain don't work. I started out by installing Azureus which I had been using on XP. At first I could download torrent files and they would load into the client but not connect to anything. So I tried installing uTorrent in case it was just an Azureus glitch, but uTorrent did the same thing. Now I can't even get torrents to load into either client; when I download a torrent it just says that it is not a valid torrent file! I have allowed both clients access through my firewall (just using the Windows 7 firewall) and even tried turning it completely off but there is no change in performance. I have also tested the ports the clcients are using and they are both open, so I'm thinking there must be a security setting configured wrong or something. I'm going crazy here! Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Cheers,

When i was with XP, i used bitcomet as my favorite download manager, but Win 7 doesnt seem to let it install. :(

usually you should get a prompt saying if you want to let this program to access the internet
the thing is you have to set a location for a network that to happen...
then it will inform you utorrent.exe is trying to access the internet and that if you do want to let it access your work network/public and/or home network...

Ok, I figured out what was happening. I was trying to set it up over the wireless at my university. It seems that the problem was that over the last week they blocked all things torrent. I never even thought of this at first because torrents worked fine there less than a week ago. Anyway, mystery solved. I guess I'll just have to do my downloading at home. Thanks for the responses.

Mateo welcome to sevenforums

First could you fill in your system soecs (lower left corner) so we know what hardware you have. Is it 32 bit or 64? clean install or upgrade?
