I just returned home from college, and am unable to connect my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, custom build) to the home network via ethernet. My computer attempts to identify the network for a while, then gives me the yellow error triangle that usually indicates the modem (Toshiba PCX2500) needs to be reset. I was previously connected to a college network, also via ethernet. I have not been on this home network in four months, but to my knowledge it has not changed.

Other computers are able to connect using the same modem/router (NETGEAR DS108) ports and the same cable. I have reset the modem multiple times, and I have also tried multiple cables and ports, so the problem definitely seems to be on my end.

I have unchecked IPv6, disabled my firewall, and uninstalled Bonjour.

ipconfig /all gives the following information:

ipconfig /release does not seem to work: it gives exactly the same output as ipconfig. ipconfig /renew gets stuck after outputting the first line, and I have to kill it with Ctrl+C.

If you can't constantly perform the ipconfig/all then you have bigger problems besides Networking.

I suggest you run the sfc /scannow command in an elevated command prompt and see what it says.

ipconfig /all comsistently returns the proper information. The scan found no integrity violations.

ipconfig /release now returns "An error occurred while releasing interface Local Area Connection : An address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint."

I should also have mentioned that my network adapter drivers are up to date, though the last update was not particularly recent.

So ipconfig/release is somehow sticking, I believe that was because it didn't have a valid IP to release.

So you tried resetting the router to no avail?

Have you tried resetting the network stack? The file below will do this for you automatically then reboot your machine, if you can post the ipconfig /all after that it might show us more.

My father had apparently changed the setup, and the router and hub needed to switch places. Problem solved.
