Yes. Very staightforward. Never seen it fail.

This is provided since Win7 release by MS as a convenience so the qualifying OS doesn't need to be installed first on a new, wiped or replacement HD.

straightforward !!! well, i just clicked the download, right clicked on it in the folder where it was, clicked run as administrator and i get this windows script host.....on a computer running microsoft windows non core edition, run slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004D302 to display the error text . error 0xC004D302 ???

If you're already doing Option 4 then it is Upgrade.

Did you reset BIOS to defaults?

no, i couldnt get to bios. i powered off , then on again pressing ESC plus F1 down but all that appeared was the windows blue screen with my name and password box below my windows little picture ... i tried it with F2 but the same thing happened ??

Could be the keys are not being pressed quickly enough before Windows begins to start.

Didn't you enter BIOS setup earlier? Are you sure which key it uses?

Does it say Toshiba or Phoenix on BIOS splash screen? For Toshiba you want to have the ESC key already pressed when powering up, then tap F1 key. For Phoenix tap f2 key vigorously the whole time its starting up.

phantom, it shows you at the bottom of the screen which key to push to get into the bios, when you first start the pc .......... Pay Attention

Please post an MGADiag report - there's something not quite right here, and I suspect there's background errors.
The report may tell us where to look.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

The currently-installed Key is the default Key for Ultimate - which can never be activated

Your BIOS is dated 28 June 2009, and appears to have updated the SLIC table also - so Vista from a Recovery disk would almost certainly fail to activate. That does appear to be the latest available - despite the fact that the current BIOS installer is dated 2011, the version number is the same :(

I think your best bet would be a repair install - making sure that you use the Upgrade Key this time, when asked for it.

The drives may have changed letters during the reinstall. Are all of you files on D now? If not then where was drive F previously? Was it on DISK0 or DISK1? Remember that you cleaned DISK0 to reinstall. So unless you have an external HD, wouldn't your files have to be on Disk1? Is there more than one partition on Disk1?

To better help you please post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image . Make sure to show everything in the drive map scrolling area. There may be other drives when you scroll down that need a drive letter assigned to be seen.

Was F a partition on the Win7 drive which you cleaned? You were warned this would wipe everything off the disk so your data must be backed up. If you Cleaned it then it has since been formatted to install Win7 so the data is not recoverable.

If F was on the other hard drive then it should still be there if you didnt' clean it. If you cleaned it and have not yet formatted then it is recoverable using the method I gave you yesterday - when I asked you these same questions and you ignored them again.

You can see now what ignoring steps and not replying to half of our inquiries can result in. If this doesn't change immediately we will not be able to help you further. I cannot remember a case in tens of thousands which has been quite so bad.
