Laptop Stuck on Windows Startup Logo Screen

Hello, I am trying to fix my mother's laptop and unfortunately am not very computer savy. She has an Acer computer running with Windows 7 Premium. When I turn it on it asks if I want to boot normally or launch startup repair. Starting normally brings me to the Windows startup screen, where it gets stuck. Launching startup repair says it's loading files, then goes to a black screen and stays there. I went to another thread with a similar problem, but I had trouble understanding. I will try to provide any information about the laptop per request.

Hello again, I apologize for the long response time. I attempted to access safe mode but the laptop gets stuck after "Loaded: \Windows\system32\drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS" regardless whether I attempt to access safe mode by itself and both with networking or command prompt.

The laptop's model is the Acer Aspire 4743 Series, model #: MS2332.

No probs with late replies V I have just got up form sleeping (night shifts)

Now to me it sounds like either the hard drive is going south and I must ask is any data you have on this machine backed up?? Because one of the things you can try is a factory reset. That is to say by pushing a certain F button on when powering up it will default the machine to the factory settings - if the hard drive will work long enough. Now doing this will reinstall Windows but delete all of the data on that drive.

An alternative is to slip in a new drive and install what is known as an OEM version of the Windows operating system. The old drive can then be accessed by other ways with a USB gadget to retrieve data you really need.

But we need to know how old is this machine from Googles I think it was brought out in 2010 and is there that data on the drive ie photos documents etc

If you have and Installation DVD, or a Windows 7 Repair Disk, you can boot the laptop with the DVD and then you will be running from the DVD, not the hard drive.

This will tell you, first, if the laptop can run at all.

While running on the DVD you can get to a Command Prompt where you can run System File Checker and the Disk Check (see Icit2lol's first post).

Doing these 3 things will give us all more information to go on.
