Recently, my computer was running poorly and i had never updated my bios so i tried and i believe i messed up somehow. Sometimes it will start and other times it won't, sometimes it will start in safe mode and other times it won't. I have Biostar motherboard and an Intel chipset E2200. I have been to the website and tried to fix things but i'm not real sure where to start. Nothing i do seems to help and i am at wits end. I don't mind re-installing and starting over if i could reformat the hard drive i would do that and start over. Need help, thanks for anything.

Generally BIOS won't affect Windows but can address RAM or CPU problems, sleep, resume etc.

To better help us to help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's the correct way to do it. :SystemInfo See Your System Specs Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built. Very important

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.

Your System Specs here.

After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts.
Click on My system Specs in the lower left of this post to see how it should look.:)
Full instructions are in the tutorial.

Then we can be better equipped to help.

The bios has nothing to do with windows running poorly, and re installing windows will not have any affect on the bios.

Where did you get the idea it would ?

Even though you`ve said you tried everything...........

Have you tried re flashing the bios ?

the computer was build for me. I have tried a different approach, i have a win 7 disc (not the original) and i have tried to install the OS again from the disc and haven't been successful. During one the attempts i choose the format option from the disc and now the drive has been formatted and the OS won't install. I feel like i fell deeper into the hole with that move. Still don't know what to do from this point. Someone please help. Thanks

I'm getting very confused. You said you have a Biostar motherboard and it is custom built. When I search for the Dell 0U990C in your specs, it shows as a laptop motherboard.

You need to change the motherboard in your specs right now to stop confusing everyone.

And I`ll ask again, why are you trying to re install windows? You have a bios problem.

When you 1st stated your computer was slow, then yes you should have just re installed windows and not tried to update the bios.

You should have come here and asked any questions BEFORE you started, we could have told and showed you exactly what to do.

There is no reason to update the bios, unless the newer bios will correct a specific problem you are having.

May I ask, have you ever installed windows on a computer ? Do you know how to do it ?

I suggest you follow the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums which include resetting BIOS to defaults since you may have some settings askew that affected the old Win7.

If you'll stick closely to those steps, they resolve 90% of install failures and may well clear whatever problem you think you had related to your BIOS update. If not report back exactly what happens.
