I had a full factory reset done by a technician in January. A suspected virus was the reason for the reset. Since getting the computer back, whenever I wake it from sleep mode I get the BSOD. The BS says kernel data inpage error. I will include the picture with this post. I have since changed the settings to never sleep.

I know you will want the mini dump files, but the two links I went to this morning were broken. I did manage to go into them last night (my mini dumps) and discovered the culprit is ntoskrnl.exe. I will include a docx copy of the three that happened yesterday while I was trying to fix it myself.

I have run chkdsk, as well as the memory diagnostics tool. All appears fine. I also checked the Microsoft updates, wondering if maybe the tech hadn't installed them all, but they too, appear to be fine.

I do not have a disk, so I cannot redo clean install, and I cannot afford to take it back into a technician. I'm a senior with very limited funds, but I do know my way around a computer (for the most part), so I'm really hoping this can be fixed by me, with your help. Thank you.

Something is wrong with the storage environment. First let us test the HDD. Test is with Seatools. Take both the short test and the extended test.

Let us know the result.

Also search in HP, if there is an update for your chipset and AHCI. If you get it, apply it.

I ran the two tests and received a pass on both.

There is no update for either the chipset or AHCI.

OK, the next thing that you should attempt is to open the computer and re-seat the sata and power.

If possible, apply a new SATA cable there. Also attach the SATA cable to an unused port on the motherboard.

Let us know how it goes.

I re-seated the power and SATA cables, hooked everything back up and started it. Clicked on SLEEP from the start menu. Left it for a few minutes, woke it up... and got the now familiar BSOD.

There are no other ports to plug the SATA cable into.

I will try to get a new cable tomorrow.

I have the computer set to never sleep.

I tried to get a new SATA cable for it, and discovered that the one attached is permanent. HP obviously doesn't want anyone mucking about in their product... and they also want a minimum of $600 Canadian to just 'look' at it, never mind fix anything.

I appreciate the time you have spent with me on this, but guess I will just have to let it be for the time being. It seems to work okay as long as it doesn't sleep.

Thank you!
