Solved Unable to get online after reinstalling windows - possible driver prob

Here are your four troubleshooting tools that you do in order in the dos command box:

a) ping 127.0.0.1 did you get replies? this makes sure your tcp/ip stack is installed. same as an earlier post about the netsh ip blah blah blah

b) type ipconfig and hit enter. What is your network interface card's IP address? Ping it and make sure it's working

c) Also in ipconfig is the default gateway (router, or isp cable modem, i.e.) ping that address. did you get replies?

d) If all above are good, now ping google.com or yahoo.com

I can tell you this--about 70% of network issues are layer 1 related--i.e. bad ethernet cable, bad wireless nic

Just tried those instructions and here are the results:

1. ping 127.0.0.1 - 4 packets sent and 4 packets received and 0% loss

2. entered ipconfig:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Link-local IPv6 Address: fe80::856b::2242::7f9b::8c62%13
IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.3

Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

****************************************************************************
I pinged 192.168.1.3 (is this the network interface's IP address?)and 4 packets were sent, 4 packets were received and 0% loss

3. I pinged defualt gateway 192.168.1.1 and 4 packets were sent, 4 packets received and 0% loss.

4. I pinged google.com and 4 packets were sent, 4 packets were received and 0% loss.

Personally speaking I don't think the issue is related to the router or ethernet cable because I can connect to the internet in safe mode (or in Ubuntu) and all my other devices are connected to the wifi with no issues. However, I do realise the importance of ruling things out and approaching the problem in a methodical way as you have done here and for which I am grateful.

Any further suggestions?

A clean startup perhaps, in case some software/service is getting in the way.

Even DNS is working for OP. Did you try different browsers yet? Also reset the browser in question (backup bookmarks and any important settings first!).

Hi Mist,

I tried resetting Chrome before I posted here and it did not work.

I have attached the results of ipconfig /all but unfortunately it did not resolve the issue. Not sure if this is relevant but I did not install any drivers other than the network adapter. However, in device manager, the only yellow exclamation mark is for "other devices - Multimedia Audio Controller".

Hi GokAy,

I already tried a clean startup but that did not resolve the problem. I have also tried using Opera and IE but they just time out as well whenever I try to access a website. In addition, I also reset Chrome. My hunch is this is driver related as I can connect when I run in safe mode but admittedly I am no expert in this area.

Type this into your web-browser: 62.252.232.35

Does this IP address bring up Google?

Let me know.

Hi Mist,

When I type that IP into my browser nothing happens. The screen remains the same and at the bottom of the browser it says waiting for 62.252.232.35. This is slightly different than what normally happens as usually it times out after about 10-20 seconds. ( This for Google Chrome)

In IE nothing happens. The green bar gets stuck and it says "Website found. Waiting for reply".

Hmm, do me a favour and go to cmd and type: PING google.com

Get the IP address from the Ping and type that into your address bar and tell me if it loads the page successfully.

When I pinged google.com it sent 4 packets, received 4 packets and had 0% loss. The IP returned was 216.58.208.78.

I typed this IP into my browser as you suggested but it did not connect to google and it is just stuck at waiting for 216.58.208.78

Just wanted to let you know that I managed to resolve the issue. It turned out that there were remnants of old AV software that was conflicting with the current AV. I uninstalled both programs and cleaned the registry and this resolved the issue.

Would like to thank all of you for taking time to help and so glad that the problem is finally resolved as I was starting to tear my hair out.

Hope you all have a great weekend. :D
