Windows IE11 update downloads successfully but doesnt install.

Hey guys so I tried installing internet explorer 11 via windows update. It said the download had been successful so I restarted my computer opened the browser and saw nothing had changed. It was still internet explorer 10 so I checked the installed updates list and it wasn't listed. So then I went back to windows updates but now I cant even find it there. No error code or anything came up so im wondering if anyone else has had this issue and was able to solve it?

Your forum system specs do not specify which bit level of Windows 7 you are using. 32bit or 64bit?

Try downloading this stand alone installer for IE11 from Microsoft:
32bit
64bit
Use the 64bit link if you are using a 64bit version of Windows 7.
Use the 32bit link if you are using a 32bit version of Windows 7.

Right thanks I was wondering if you could help me with another issue then? For some reason en.wikipedia.org and any of its sub pages will NOT appear in history for some reason when it was just a week ago. Any ideas?

How long do you have the History set to retain links?
The maximum setting used to be 21 days (I think it can be longer now!)- minimum is 0 days (switched off)

Internet Options > Browsing History Settings > History
set the number of days there.

But see that's the thing! Everything else gets recorded... except that site, which something I use history for quite a bit so yeah any other ideas? (I believe mine is set to 20 btw)

In that case I dunno - unless it's something somehow set by the site (perhaps cookie expiry??)
I tend to add pages I may want to look at again later to the favourites bar anyhow - and prune that when it gets too unwieldy.

The only reason im using this atm is cos I somehow and don't know how I did it over the years is cos I got 500 tabs on firefox... LOL time to get trimming

Anyways im still wondering why Wikipedia is no longer appearing on IE's history. Anyone else have an idea?

The places where IE's history might be corrupted.

If you are willing, completely reset IE per these steps (including step 5):

If that does not work, then there are some other IE indexing areas that we can clean up (i.e. webcache).

I guess I would be willing to do a reset if nothing else works but is that the only idea left?

Please test to see if any of those wikipedia websites go into History when you visit them today. Open IE11. Open and pin the History panel. Visit en.wikipedia.org. Expand the history link for Today as needed. Are there any entries for en.wikipedia.org?

If not, you could try clearing just the History:
Internet Options/Properties >
General tab >
Browsing history section >
Delete button >
Delete Browsing History window >
Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data.
Place a check by History.
Uncheck the other options.
Delete button.

Now test the wikipedia website to see if it is in History.

But I don't want to wipe out my history. I still haven't updated IE11 and I think that will probably erase the history too but might fix my problem. I saved the tabs I need in favourites would exporting IE10 favourites work when I import with IE11?

Oh crap I can't believe I haven't changed that! Im running Service pack 1 and it shows as genuine
Also this is on my laptop so those specs don't apply, this is a Home premium version I believe

Like the above post I just haven't changed my details, but have now and this is on my laptop anyway those details don't matter
