Solved Bsod- 0x00000124

Hello!

Like most BSOD users, I'm frustrated. I'll start from the top, explain what I have done, and explain what I will try if no quick resolution is in hand.

The Top:

EDIT, I filled out my system specs profile.
Mobo - Asus ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
CPU - FX8150 8 Core AMD+3 (air cooled)
PSU - Coolermaster SP 850w
Ram - Corsair Vengeance 16GB ram
GPU - NVIDIA GTX 770

No hardware or software changes have been made recently. The most recently change would be the reinstallation of Windows 7 on my SSD about a month ago. Since the reinstallation, I've been playing games like normal every night. I was even playing last night. Today, I get home from work and boot up the machine, I started ARK (video game) and played for a few then got the BSOD - 0x00000124. I said "okay", restarted the PC, booted Windows normally and waited. After 3-5 minutes, I got the same BSOD. I tried booting into safe mode which worked fine at first. I tested my other HDD's by accessing them to make sure they are still working and all was well. I got the BSOD again and decided to head over to the bios settings to switch things back to default after reading up on my issue. My PC basically gives me less and less time before it shuts down. Now, even while im in my BIOS settings, it will eventually shut down.

What I've done:

1. I removed the GPU, RAM, along with the connections & reseated everything.
2. I attempted to swap out the GPU with another, but couldn't complete this testing since its such an old card that the connections aren't compatible with my newer PSU. I even attempted to retrieve an older PSU to complete this test, but failed there as well since my older PSU is dead.
3. I tried resetting the CMOS from the back of the computer.
4. Restored my BIOS to default, it's been O/C'd for some time now.

While I had the side of the case open, i decided to watch the POST lights on my mobo go through its set up while trying to boot. It seems to pass all but i get a solid red light from the DEVICE_LED. However, this light went away when I actually made it to Windows (which barely happens since it wants to shut off so quickly)

What's Next:

I plan to disconnect my SSD (windows), and both my HDD's, and connect my external and attempt to boot even though there isn't a bootable ISO to see if the computer hangs in a black screen and doesn't shut off at all, maybe that will identify if its a Drive issue.

What I Think:

I think it might be a PSU or an overheating issue. Why? Well, after writing this long post, I decided to boot up the desktop and it booted to windows fine and actually stayed on for like 10 to 15 minutes with no issues. Which is the longest its stayed on all day. It seems like the longer the PC is off, the longer is stays on when I boot it. All my fans are working, but when I removed my CPU fan, I noticed my thermal ink/glue is all dried up and pretty much gone... but im not sure this would cause such an issue?



Sorry for the long post, but its almost impossible to explain this in a few sentences. Especially if I expect any results! I would love to post up some dump file logs like you guys like or may need, but, like I said before... the PC doesn't give me much time to do anything.

I ordered some thermal paste so I can reapply it since its dried up and pretty much non-existent . Maybe my CPU is overheating. That'd be the best $7 bucks I've ever spent.

I'll update if it back to crashing but at the moment, the thermal paste has kept my PC running for about 30 minutes solid. I even gamed a little to test it out.

SOLUTION : BSOD 0x00000124 in my case was caused by the CPU overheating. If you have this issue, check your CPU temp & check to see if your thermal paste has dried up.

Thanks to anyone in advanced who was going to help.
