I'm building a new computer and I'm not sure if I should purchase windows 7 or Windows 10. My current computer has windows 7 and has a free upgrade to 10 which I haven't done yet. My impression is that I can upgrade it to 10 and then reinstall Win7 and Microsoft will have an electronic record of the motherboard so I can install and activate win10 at any other time in the future without a license code. Is there any reason to not buy Win 7 for the new computer and do the same thing? Would going to Win 10 directly have any benefits? Lastly I noticed that Amazon is selling Win 10 Pro for $120 from a 3rd party vs $139 from newegg. Any reason not to go with the 3rd party from amazon? Thanks

My opinion, buy a 7 licence (if you can still get one) and then take the free upgrade to 10 and see if you like it. Create an image just before you upgrade, then activate 10. Try it out for a few weeks and if you hate it just restore your 7 image.

If you just outright buy a 10 licence and hate it, you're pretty much stuck with it.

Sounds like a good plan. Am I correct that I could reupgrade to Win 10 at any time in the future after downgrading to Win 7 as long as I'm using the same Motherboard?

Once the upgrade has been activated on your device it will be listed as a digital entitlement and "should" be eligible for upgrading again at any time.
Although, nobody can say 100% what will happen after 29th July 2016. I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to upgrade again though.

Hi,
I would only buy from Amazon if amazon is selling and shipping the item,
Otherwise get it from Newegg because they usually do supply and ship but you do need to notice where the item is coming from,
You could have problems immediately or months down the road with activation ;)

Agree with ThrashZone about Amazon. I would only buy an expensive item from them direct and not through a marketplace seller.
I don't mind if it's something cheap.

This link is from Newegg.com You can buy a Win 7 disk with the option to upgrade to Win 10 free. Don't buy Win 10.
windows 7 - Newegg.com Just my opinion. I have heard too many people that upgraded to Win 10 and did not like it. It is not an easy feat to get back to Win 7. Think about it before you upgrade.
