Realtek is constantling waking up my computer. Fix? Alternative?

Constantly needing to update tells me that it is a seriously faulty piece of, well, software. Fortunately, I really do not need this computer for audio.

I set the computer to sleep and it wakes up unpredictably. 5 minutes to 5 hours, sometimes only once a week. Using cmd: powercfg lastwake tells me that the culprit is Realtek. I disabled the software in the device manager so it remains to be seen if that helps.

It may well be that I need this driver. Is there some other way to prevent it from activating at all and let my computer sleep and save on my electric bill? I did not see an entry in the Task Scheduler.

I've never heard of Realtek causing a PC to wake up. Realtek is the PC sound device and is needed. Millions of PC's use Realtek (the most common PC sound device).

I suspect some other application is the real cause and possibly the other application just uses the sound, so Realtek is listed.

For now, I can only go on what cmd: powercfg lastwake is reporting and it blames Realtek. Maybe it is a false positive. I have disabled it for now and consequently have lost all audio. I rarely use it on this machine anyway. I am now watching to see if any other wake up calls happen.

I patiently wait with worm on tongue.

Display, System, Awaymode, Execution, Perfboost all report "None".
Next time it wakes, I guess I can run it then too to see if anything else gets reported.

Yea, run it after the next wake up to see if it shows anything.
If it doesn't, then it looks like a request is not the issue.

I had disabled Realtek and went to re-enable it.

In the form there is a button to enable. Click on it and it brings up the warning what might happen if I disable it and how to enable. The only button is "OK". I click it and it reports that it is enabled.

What was the purpose of that disable warning screen?

What OS are you running ?
I only ask because i do not see Execution and Perfboost displayed in Win 7.
I do see those in Win 8.1.

More interesting, i ran the requests in Win 7 and i have a Realtek request.
It doesn't cause me problems, i set a request override years ago, and it still works.
I'm sure i caused the request by playing around with media playlists using media from different devices.

I always thought that there were 7 forums here, not necessarily a forum for Win7.
My system is running Win 10 but go figure, I am getting more help here than in the MS Forum for Win10.

I just wondered if my Win 7 was missing an update that added some info to powercfg requests.

Hi,
Which driver version do you have ?
I show 6.0.1.7525
I have hibernation off and really just use a screen saver so sleep is not really being used seeing as I have a ssd and cut back on many writes.
Plus I rarely if ever use 10.

I show the same driver version being used inside win-7 too

It is the Realtek Network adapter, not the Realtek Audio device causing the wake up.

Yes, it was a simple solution. It is interesting how much time I spent with this in the Microsoft Community trying to figure out all sorts of strange suggestions.

I missed the answer because I went to Device Drivers/Sound and did not see the settings. I will never know how it was in Network settings....
