Hi Folks, I am currently using PDF-XChangeViewerPortable.exe it was downloaded as a .Zip file. I used 7Zip to extract the files and put them in a folder called PDF Reader. I put this folder into the root of C: Drive. I then did as in my attachment.View attachment Default Program.pdf this worked well for ages, updating the program as required.
A few days ago, I got notification that PDFXEdit.exe (editor) was a superior program from the same company.
I downloaded and unzipped as before but after deleting my old PDF Reader folder.
I have had various attempts at doing as in my attachment all failed. I managed to set it as default in Firefox but not as my Laptop's Default program

Hi:

I'm not seeing an attachment, and I am not familiar with that particular program, but my first question would be: why did you put the folder in the root of the C:\ drive?

Sorry if that's a dumb question, but it would not seem to be the normal place to put such a program.

Okay I just downloaded the portable version. What you need to do is scroll to the bottom and browse to the executable:

Choose Program.jpg

Optionally uncheck "always use this program" if you don't want to make it the default.

Choose Program 2.jpg

Once you've done that it will appear in right click context menu for opening PDF's

Choose Program 3.jpg

If you make it default PDF's will always open in the program when clicked on.

I have tried what you suggested for the past 5 hours with both the files I downloaded as above and it wont work. yet!

Just thinking about it - maybe using the root of C: could be the problem. Personally I create a folder for some portable apps like this:

C:\Portable Apps

Maybe try moving the program folder.

Hi Callender
My folder 'PDF Reader' for PDF-XChangeViewerPortable.exe is not on my Laptop or any other pdf readers except the 2 files I downloaded as above for PDFXEditor.exe both have been unzipped to a new folder x 2 (one each). Doing once again as you kindly suggested = Nothing happens no matter how long i wait.

Yep, that's why I asked the same question in my previous reply.
It does seem like an odd place to put it.

Just so that we can all learn, it would be good to know if moving that folder resolves the issue.

I have had PDF-XChangeViewerPortable.exe files in my PDF Reader folder on C: Drive for ages.
I recently put Thunderbird Portable's files into a folder called TB Mail Portable on D: Drive with a desktop shortcut on both my computers, it works perfectly. Just before you suggest doing it with pdf reader, I have done it & it still won't work.

Would you be able to provide a link to download the software?

Thanks.

Also does it actually launch if you just browse to the folder and run the executable from there?

PDFXEdit.exe - Open the containing folder and click PDFXEdit.exe to run. Does it launch?

Okay I think that I've figured it out. You must have downloaded the zipped program installer rather than the portable version of the program. It's an easy to make mistake.

Tracker Software Downloads 1.jpg

You actually need one of these two downloads (your choice if you want OCR)

Tracker Software Downloads 2.jpg

If I download the zipped program installer I get exactly the problem you describe.

Anyway here's direct download links if you prefer:

PHP:
http://downloads.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXEdit_Portable_NoOCR.zip

http://downloads.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXEdit_Portable.zip

Suggest deleting the folder you created and start again.

Well my friend you must be a mind reader, as I had this image made before your post yours above but was reluctant to post it as the administrators don't like links to other sites.

PDF Page.png

I have removed everything and tried from scratch as you suggested & failed again.
I used to use Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro which had to be disabled to allow me to do certain tasks. I now use built-in firewall.
I also use Avast, it's latest version includes HIPS so I will try with it disabled. Wish me luck.

I have to point out that in your screenshot in the above Post #16

If you click on the download button as shown it will download the installer and not the portable version. You must select the portable version from the drop down list before downloading.

It would be simple to copy and paste one of the download links provided in the box in Post #15

I do know how to download the file I want, its just that if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
I have temporarily abandoned the pdf reader & now playing with Google calendar. Where my luck is the same.
