Will this New MOBO Work with my CPU?

Hello all,

I recently got some spare money and I'm trying to fix a PC that broke several months ago. The PC that broke is a lenovo h50-50, but the motherboard broke back in May. I have found a different motherboard for my system, and I believe it should work because it has the same LGA that my cpu will support. My cpu is a core i3 4160.

Here's my list I've built:

The problem is that it says there's "compatibility check" "You may have to update the motherboard bios prior to haswell cpu use"

I am nervous that I will get the new mobo and put everything together and something will break due to incompatibility. Will that happen if the mobo isn't updated? How can I tell the mobo has to be updated?

It all depends on what BIOS ships with that motherboard. As long as it ships with F5 BIOS, you should be ok.

You'll need to call the place you're getting it from to verify which revision and which BIOS you get with that motherboard.

I checked but I can't find which revision you're buying from the link you provided. I'm guessing you probably have revision 1.1 and in that case it would seem that its preloaded with BIOS F5, which would be compatible with that CPU. Again though, thats just a guess, I would call the manufacturer you're getting it from to verify the rev and BIOS.

I do not know if this helps but I'd like to buy it from Amazon as the cheapest choice with prime. If I have to call the company I will. Thanks for the help

Be careful, This is a different revision than the one before. I would just call Amazon to confirm the rev number and BIOS number/date of the mobo you're interested in. It's really difficult to figure it out when they aren't forthcoming with that type of information. Looks like you're looking for F5 BIOS for the rev 1.1 motherboard and F2 BIOS for rev 3.0.

I would say you are almost certainly good to go but it sucks to get a mobo that isn't compatible with your CPU. I had that happen on a build once and I was able to bum a CPU to update the bios.

Every CPU on that list requires BIOS F2. F2 was the second BIOS Release for that board released in 2014.
