Hi Exca,
Is the USB plugged into a port that is USB3, (blue inside).
If so it wont work as there are no USB3 drivers in the W7 install.

Hi,
Your problem is caused by the fact that you are using a USB to install.
Yes if you burn a Win7 iso to a disk it will install from there.
As Megahertz has explained you can add the required drivers to your USB with his link.
You can also us the Asus method of the same, it is called Asus EZ installer.

Ah I see, I will have a dvd shortly so will it work fine then? I just hope I'm not buying the dvd for nothing. But taking a look at his guide looks like it isn't for beginners, I know I would mess something up lol.
M.2 mostly refers to the latest SSD technology, similar to NVMe.
.
Did u download a Win 7 iso file, burn it onto a USB-stick n tried to use this USB-stick to install Win 7 onto yr changed cptr that has the old HDD from the ex-cptr inside it.? Did u boot yr cptr from USB-HDD or USB-Flashdrive via the F2/F12/F10 Boot Menu to do the reinstall.?
....... Personally, I prefer to burn the downloaded Win 7 iso onto a DVD+R disc n use it to do a reinstall.
I put it onto my usb from my old computer but am using it for new one yeah. Yes that's where I am getting the error from when I go to reinstall windows

M.2 drive is a SSD the size of a gum stick. It can be much faster than a SATA SSD.
If you install Win 7 with a DVD or using the Asus EZ installer, it will add the USB driver only to the installation wizard. You wont be able to use the maintenance wizard and the installed Win 7 won't have USB support. If you follow my tutorial in 1/2 an hour you will have it all done.
Look this guide http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/Z170-K/DE164_100_Series_Windows_7_Setup_Guide_print.pdf
To install win 7 on a skylake system you also need to change some BIOS settings.
- Disable fast boot
- Disable Secure boot. Some call it OS type. Set it to Other OS
- Enable CSM and select Boot drives to UEFI.
You don't need a DVD if you add the drivers to the Win 7 USB installation disk.
Boot the Win 7 USB installation disk on UEFI mode and Install.
