Hi

Joined forums specifically for help on a friend's Toshiba laptop on which I am typing this post. It has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit installed and Internet Explorer 11.

The problem began after installing the latest cumulative update for IE11 but I have found by going back to previous cumulative updates that the problem first presents itself after installing KB3175443.

(My friend neglected updates for some time. Along the way to find root of the problem I've uninstalled/reinstalled IE11 and then installed earlier cumulative updates to find the culprit)

The problem is that when IE11 is opened all looks ok, homepage loads fine, but then another window opens which is blank except for Internet Explorer 11 at the top (no X to close or anything). Moving the cursor over the blank window, the cursor changes to a pointing finger in places, but being blank I have no idea what is being offered to click on. Because this window is active, sitting on top of the normal IE11 window, I can do nothing with IE11. The only way out is to open Task Manager and use end task to close IE11.

I'm fairly certain it is virtually the exact same problem as was posted here except that in my case the window that pops up is blank.

(Am I right that the linked thread is marked as solved despite receiving no replies? Does that mean that member solved it but never posted the solution, or am I missing something?)

I think the person here had the same problem too. (That link seems to open with an overlaying window that needs to be closed)

Can anyone offer any help to solve this?

(having to use a different browser for the time being which is how I got to here :))

Thanks for any assistance.

Is the Pop Up blocker set to high, does that have anything to do with it ?

Did IE 11 behave normally after reinstalling, without any updates ?

I`m checking to see if I installed that update, I don`t use IE, but I just checked and it seems fine.

I do not have that update installed and it is not in my list of hidden updates.

How old is the install on that PC, any idea at all ?

Thanks for responding.

I'll have a look at the pop up blocker.

IE11 was fine after reinstalling and also after installing the cumulative update KB3170106 which is the one before KB3175443.

Looking at the installed programs it looks like it's 2010 laptop.

Accessed Internet Options via Control Panel and have tried with low level pop-up blocker and with blocker off completely but no joy.

Ok. On the basis that the pop-up window is one for where you can choose things like Homepage and search engine
I've created the .reg file suggested in this thread and applied it and can now open IE11 complete with KB3175443 with no pop-up.:D

Haven't looked into it, but if choosing settings from that window is somehow part of protecting them from being changed by outside sources, then presumably I might not have that protection, by effectively cancelling the window. Just thought I'd say in case anyone else chooses to do this if they get the problem.
