Homegroup and ipv6

Can someone pls tell me the reason why to create homegroup, you need to enbaled ipv6?

Even though you have the protocol enabled/installed, does ipv6 actually gets used (for use with homegroup)?

Yes. The internet xurrently uses IP-4 and is running out of addresses. IPv6 addresses that fact.

Since its the up and coming proticol MS decided to base homegroup on the new instead of the old

So what are you saying, that MS uses this notion of ipv6 usage with homegroup only as a placeholder?

If so this can mean two things:

1) When ipv6 eventually get globalised (hmm when? ), Windows users would be familiar with the notion of ipv6?

2) When ipv6 eventually get globalised (hmm when? ), MS would be ready to take it on and make their apps ipv6 intergatable. This imply that they want t keep up the Jones.

I don't have the answer, and i hope someone more knowledgable will give that answer, but untill then i can't see any reason for linking ipv6 to homegroups. Remember that at home in your private network (or at work where you use homegroup) you are joinning pcs to homegroups to share files, videos, music etc. You don't really go out into the internet as such.

IP-6 is not a place holder. it is the active method for homegroups and large internet assets. It is in use and its use is already increasing. The Jones are way ahead of microsoft. Ms is just a pupy in this Dog show
2-Ip-6 is ALREADY "globalized?" all of the backbone servers, all of the switching companies, all of the hardware vendors are using it NOW.

This isnt a MS conspiracy. Why would they want to incur the costs of IP-6 in their software, and hardware if they didnt have to.

By globalised, i meant daily usage and i do not believe it is so in this context.

Im not saying this is a conspiracy, i'm just saying there is no need for ipv6 for homegroup usage. Have ipv6 protocol installed and actually using it or not is two different things. At home where you have your homegroup setup within your home network (for sharing files, music etc) how does ipv6 come into it?
