The user profile service failed the logon....

I also did using Kari tutorial.
Lets begin with the basic
- Boot from the Win 7 installation disk, go to repair and launch a CMD window. Type:
chkdsk c: /f
See if it finds any bad clusters or bad blocks.

- Type:
sfc /scannow

Did run sfc and had found no issues.

will try running chkdsk as well and let you know

Since I couldn't find anything wrong and any NEW user that I create has some issue or the other, I think a Windows re-install is the ONLY way to go.

You can try a Repair install. It will reinstall Win 7 and will keep all programs and data.
Repair Install - Windows 7 Help Forums

For the updates, use the offline. It's faster and you can install the Security only updates.
MS releases SP2 for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Had looked at Repair Install but since it "Preserves User Accounts", I was wondering if that would work.

But perhaps I'll try Reflect rescue media and see what happens and then try Win Repair.
