Hi all
I 've tried google chrome -- but unlike you guys who bookmark and quick link all over the internet I don't use that many sites.

Two features really have put me off Google Chrome -- trivial they may be but if you have to change the whole way of working then you have to ask is it worth it.

1) fairly trivial and I suppose I could go without it -- I like having the menus (File, Edit, View, Favorites Tools Help) under the address bar as per IE8 (you have to set always show menus in the folder options in the Windows control panel) to access recently visited sites.

I'm not a big fan of tabbed browsing --of course that's just choice.

2) SHOWSTOPPER -- I use the DROP DOWN in the IE address bar a lot -- since I don't use that many internet sites regularly I find this far more convienient -- Google Chrome doesn't have this yet (or I can't find it).

Speed and other things Google chrome is fine -- and I've still got it for those cases where IE8 crashes -- doesn't seem to so much now after the latest W7 updates.

Cheers
jimbo

Well everyones entitled to their opinion.

I'd generally use FF, but seeing as all the latest versions crash my explorer and give me headaches, Chromes next on the ladder.

I agree its missing the Menu (File, Edit, View etc), but i suppose ill have to bear without it.

Hi there

I wasn't rubbishing it -- I was just saying why I didn't like it. It's fast etc so no probs on that score (mind you IE8 has pulled its socks up if you apply the latest W7 updates).

Anyway its good to have choices.

cheers

It's great to have choices, my IE8 is backup if chrome dies, in which it has not done so far, so cant complain.

I understand your not rubbishing it, those points you 'pointed' out are valid, it's also what i thought was wrong with it.

I AGREE with jimbo45.... And before downloading Chrome, I reasearched the "best", "fastest" and most favored by users on cnet.com.... HUGE disappointment! Takes way too much time to find the basics so easily available on Moxilla.
The "add-ons" are GREAT, but sorry... doesn't cut it with me.... I need a solid, sturdy foundation BEFORE I need all the bells and windows.... Kind of like a beautiful, well dressed woman.... who can't hold a conversation! I'm just sayin...

It took me a long time to come around to Chrome. What sold me on it, is the sync feature. Since I am a systems admin at work, I use a few different machines at the office and have a few different machines at home. With the sync feature, my bookmarks, my bookmark bar, my passwords and extensions come with me where ever I go. It works on Windows and Linux, which for me is great since I use both.

I work around any and all other downfalls solely because of this sync feature and how great it works. But for somebody who doesn't use multiple PC's, it would be of nearly 0 value to them.

Kado897 bummer I can't see that link you posted for history extension because I did UNINSTALL chrome... couldn't take it anymore... I'm not sure if it's habit and what I know and change and all that baloney... but browsing was becoming a chore... So I'm back with the little Fox and while I was bored and thought I might be missing out (Gemini trait); turns out... not so.
Have a great day all!

This is what it looks like. You can do quite a bit of configuration on it to get it working as you like.

Back when i discovered sync in Chrome, Firefox didn't have it at least not that I knew of.

i don't really miss Firefox since moving away from it, and with the crazy version number changes as of late, I'm actually happier being on Chrome where it just silently does it's upgrades in the background.

I use Chrome mostly (the beta channel), Firefox only for the download helper extension, IE9 only when I have to and I looked at Opera but couldn't get on with it.
