I got to the realization that i dont like windows 10. I miss windows 7. I know, they will stop supporting it, but if you got a good antivirus and spyware program, would it still possible to stay on windows 7?

I still have an old laptop with Win XP and it works as it always did.

Win 7 will work the same way it does today.
What you need is an offline update (like Simplix), the drivers and a Win 7 installation disk.
MS releases SP2 for Windows 7

I tried Windows 10 during the free upgrade period and hated it. I went back to Windows 7. Now, I'm looking for a Windows alternative for the upcoming end-of-life for Windows 7.

I don't think anyone should trust Microsoft, Google, etc...

Win 7 end of support doesn't change anything. It will continue to work as it does today.

Linux is a very good OS. It's powerful, safe and free.
And there are a lot of distributions. I like these:

I just went back to windows 7 again and i love it.

My only concern is if i will be able to use my computer for gaming as well as using my programs. If i buy a game sometime in the future, will the game developers still make it compatible with windows 7?

Its not hard to get rid of everything you hated
Making Win10 look and act like Win7

Thanks for that link.

One of my problems with Win 10 was drivers for my vintage Intel DX58SO motherboard. I couldn't find drivers for all the embedded features such as the Intel Rapid Storage Technology. The Win 7 driver wouldn't work with Win 10, and I couldn't find a newer version of the Intel RST driver that would work with my motherboard and Win 10.

Without Intel support, Win 10 was not an option unless I upgraded my motherboard and cpu.

I've read some links where others have upgraded to Win 10 with the Intel DX58SO, but I question the quality of those upgrades.

When I initially upgraded, I allowed the program to do an upgrade install. I wasn't satisfied with the upgrade install, so when I attempted a clean install, it became apparent that it was a no-go.

After the end of support date, I wouldn't expect any new game to be backwards compatible with Win 7. If it happens to be compatible with 8.1, it might work, but consider yourself lucky if it does.

Well, that sucks. That puts me in a dilemma, use an os that i dont want to use, or be unable to play games.

I see that most games are still compatible with windows 7 though, some even with xp.

As with any new program, if it doesn't state that it's compatible with your current OS, then it's likely not compatible. You've got to consider the program's system requirements.

It's the same with hardware. Intel discontinued support for my Intel motherboard at Win 7. I can perform an install upgrade to Win 10, but it doesn't work very well. A clean install is out of the question, because the all drivers are not available for Win 10.

I don't think that's the case for all types of drivers. Microsoft included compatibility drivers for older hardware with Win 10, but not all those drivers performed like correct drivers and some drivers were just missing. A clean install didn't download all the required drivers and the result was a less than fully functional system. Even an upgrade install resulted in some loss of hardware features.

If the hardware is not advertised as compatible with Win 10, then it probably isn't.

For older hardware, an upgrade to Win 10 requires hardware upgrades as well for full functionality.

Their user base is going to want win7 support for sure, but the bigger question is DirectX support. DirectX 12 is the current version and microsoft recently announced that due to pressure from game manufacturers they were making it available on windows 7, starting with World of Warcraft. Reading through some links it looks likely it will become available for other games on win7 too. Since there is no DirectX 13, you have to ask yourself how far into the future before there are games that are ONLY compatible with DirectX 13, a product that is not even yet announced? Given that Fortnight just now announced the end of support for DirectX 10, I'm thinking there is a long future of support for games on win7.
Microsoft ports DirectX 12 to Windows 7
Fortnight ends DirectX 10 support

I really hope so. I love windows 7 and i dont want any other OS. I also agree with you, game manufactors are going to lose customers if they only support windows 10. Windows 7 was the last good OS from microsoft, so i think a lot of people are going to stay.

windows 10 pro terrible

I got to the realization that i dont like windows 10. I miss windows 7. I know, they will stop supporting it, but if you got a good antivirus and spyware program, would it still possible to stay on windows 7?

A lot of legacy software can be run in Win 10 simply by changing its compatibility mode to the appropriate OS. Then, Win 10 also has hyper-V which makes running the legacy software easier. Of course, it takes up more of your hard drive (SSD) space.
