Thanks Bree

I know about the distrust in 3rd party sites - hence my query in post #1

I'll check out the link you gave - at first glance it looks okay, but so did the Windows Update route until I got the 404 error.

Thanks also to flavallee for that info & link. Not sure as to provenance of that site

Just seems to point to a shared folder in the cloud somewhere.

Could you give me some more information about it please?

Cheers,

Zaph

Okay - I'm puzzled.
Bree your link took me to the Microsoft Update Catalog

Windows Update Catalogue KB4474419.jpg

I clicked on the download button for the highlighted link and had a choice of .msu or .exe file.

I chose the .msu then got the following which referred to another KB patch - namely KB2533552 which seems to be a Windows Update patch to enable SP1 installation, so I installed that.

KB976932.jpg

Then ran the .exe file

I now have SP1 installed.

Thanks

Zaph

Just done a clean install of Windows 7 (x64).

I need SP1 but it is no longer available direct from Microsoft

View attachment 421193

I have found two (reputable?) sites that seem to have it.

Would it be okay to download from there?

Sites are:

SoftonicDownload Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - free - latest version

MajorGeeks

Download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - MajorGeeks

fyi, the standalone Win7 SP1 downloads were removed just from the Microsoft Download Center (due to those downloads having only SHA1 hashes) but are still available thru Microsoft Update Catalog (which is the "new" download center) as Bree pointed out

Don't trust any 3rd party sites, not when you can still get it direct from Microsoft from the Update Catalog.

Microsoft Update Catalog KB976932

This link leads to a website where there are 3 links that open 3 windows having 2 files for download (6 files total). Is this the whole Windows 7, or just updates for Windows 7? Can i use the files to install the whole, the full Windows 7?
