It looks like you have restrictions in 'Group Policies'. Were you able to download Windows updates in Vista?

Try this ....

  • Please download Dial-A-Fix from one of the following mirrors:
  • Extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Double click Dial-a-Fix.exe to start the program.
  • Press the green double checkmark box (Looks like this:
    checkmark.png
    )
  • UNcheck Empty Temp Folders, as well as Adjust Time/Date in the prep section. The prep section should then look like this:
    toUncheck.png

    mainWindow.png
  • Click on go
  • Exit/Close Dial-A-Fix
Next please go to windows update and install all critical updates
Microsoft Windows Update
Reboot, and see if that solves your update issues

When I go to double click it, it says "Dial-a-fix is not ready for Vista (yet). There are many changes in Vista that prevent the normal operation of Dial-a-fix. Check the Dial-a-fix website after Windows Vista has been released in the retail market."

Why is it thinking I have Vista?

because that program was designed for Win XP. Windows 7 wasn't even around back then. Win 7 is just Vista refined.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Makes sense. I thought it said it was compatible with Vista in its description, but I checked it over again and it isn't. Good catch.

Anymore ideas? I've e-mailed Microsoft...AGAIN since they haven't responded to my first e-mail.

Another idea ....

Step 1. Open Notepad (or any text editor).
Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):

regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, as a .bat or .cmd extension.
Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.
Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.

Now see if you can update.

I've tried troubleshooting it before. It can't find any problems, even though this is a PRETTY big problem. Once again, it couldn't find any problems. Oh, Jacee, that didn't work. Also, as soon as I double clicked the .bat file, it ran by itself. Is it supposed to do that?
