Radeon Mobility HD 4570 Not working after win 7 upgrade

Hi

A few teething problems with Windows 7... I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 7535G with Vista - it has two graphics cores - an onboard 3200HD for low power stuff and a more powerful HD 4570. These are controlled by Catalyst Control Centre (CCC) and worked fine...

...until I upgraded to Windows 7

- Now Power Express does not seem to recognise either cards although the 3200 appears to be working. When I check the hardware section of the computer, both cards are recognised, but a fault is diagnosed with the 4500 series card - it says the card cannot start - code 10 error

The cards are supposed to switch automatically when the computer is plugged into / out of mains power.

I have downloaded the most recent versions of CCC and the most recent ATI drivers but this has not rectified the problem.

I need the 4570 card. Has anyone experienced similar / suggest a solution??

Hi torrent G,

Thanks for all the advice. I have just tried all that - new drivers, new bios and still not working.

The ACER guys said to clean install Windows 7, but I am not confident this will do anything other than shut down a load of other programs.

Contemplating going back to Vista...rubbish :-(

Any other ideas??

Same problem here. You'd really expect Acer to test these upgrades before telling us all the laptop's "eligible".

I did mine on a clean install too, so try the Acer guys again and tell them it didn't work! I've contacted them as well but yet to hear back (did it by e-mail).

Download the desktop version of the driver from ATI's site for Windows 7. Extract to C:\ATI and leave that there for later. Search while in C:\ATI (top right) for *.inf.

Then upload the .infs after using Winrar on them. Attach to a post.

Right click the video card in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste the results here. (Do this for both video adapters.)

I'll get this to work for you guys, with instructions.

Hey Seb - thanks for the advice, at least you saved me a clean install! If you get a response from Acer will you let me know? Still waiting on a response from the email I sent them...

Torrent G - appreciate the support. I will try to follow instructions above and post the results

Sorry I should have made clear, but the Aspire is a notebook not a desktop. I have downloaded the following driver from the ATI website. Please let me know if this is incorrect, there is no option for a dedicated "desktop driver":

Graphics Drivers & Software

Windows 7 -- 32 bit --- Mobility Radeon --- HD 4000 series

(Note, device manager says the 3200 is working fine)
-----------------------------------------

I completed the search and there were two .inf files listed. I have attached them both.

Hardware ids -

For the Mobility Radeon HD 4570:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9553&SUBSYS_02371025&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9553&SUBSYS_02371025
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9553&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9553&CC_0300

For the Radeon HD 3200
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9612&SUBSYS_02361025&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9612&SUBSYS_02361025
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9612&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9612&CC_0300

Let me know if you need anything else or if I have done anything incorrectly. Really appreciate your help here

Thanks

H.

Yeah Mr. Pipe, I meant the desktop version. But we can try with this anyhow.

Download my attachment and extract from it. Copy and paste C7_87751.inf over the original inside C:\ATI somewhere. Make sure you choose "copy and replace" when it asks.

Then, go to the device manager and right click on the 4570. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Now find the C7_87751.inf where you copied and pasted to. Double click on it. Hit ok and maybe next then...let it install to completion.

Reboot and tell us how it went. :D

Unfortunately I didn't get to reboot stage - followed your steps above but it told me that the file was not compatible with 32 bit windows 7? See attached file. Also slightly strange you can see that the system lists two 4570 graphics cards - one of which has something called WDDM

Usually that error comes from when you choose a folder to install from instead of clicking on the .inf itself.

See if that helps..?

I just double checked the file. It's for x64. You downloaded x64 driver from ATI. Start over again with the x86 32-bit version for Windows 7.

If you download this link, and use my attachment with it, it should be good.

Extract from ATI's site, then overwrite the .inf with this one.

Use same .inf in the install process.

Thanks again. Still no joy though I am afraid - I followed instructions and installed your driver file, but this time it says that "Windows has encountered a problem - code 10 error, card will not start"

Very frustrating!

Did you copy it over the original one you downloaded from ATI's site, before installing from it?

Hi torrent G,

Yes I did. It is getting a bit confusing now because I have so many driver downloads from ATI, but 90% sure I got the right one (even the amd site you pointed me too had multiple downloads)

The one I replaced had the same file name as the one you sent over

I'm getting very frustrated with this now.

I just tried removing both drivers and ATI's install manager, CCC, PowerExpress... any software relating to ATI so that I could reinstall it from scratch with some of torrentg's suggestions. Well, after removing the driver (half way through the ATI software uninstall) my screen went black, which makes sense if I've taken away the hardware that makes the screen colourful and pretty doesn't it, so yes, I'm an idiot for removing both at once. On the other hand, I took the power away and rebooted (it came on in 640 x 480) and Windows started trying (and succeeded) to install the cards. It seems that both card drivers are now working, as no error is reported. I have disabled the 3200 display adapter in device manager and still get windows aero in 1600 x 900 resolution so I guess it really WAS working? But then I enabled the 3200 again and the screen went to back to black... but on rebooting they're both working!!?!? PowerExpress is NOT running.

I reckon this is a problem with switching between the two cards as torrentg suggested with updating motherboard drivers. Otherwise it wouldn't have worked until I enabled the other one, would it? Unless it doesn't work at all, and it was just Windows (or me) being stupid.

But I don't actually know what I'm talking about, so I can only hope this stuff helps for someone who does know what they're doing.
